Find a Trope:
openFound an Abandoned Robot Anime
The story starts with a character finding a deactivated robot in the trash or somewhere else, with the ensuing story usually revolving around their relationship.
Examples include Gunnm, Chobits, Made in Abyss, the French manga Green Mechanic or the more recent Heart Gear.
Related to A Boy and His X I suppose.
Edited by LyendithopenName change between alternate universes within a franchise Anime
The various universes that comprise the Mai Hime franchise share many characters, but often change at least part of a given character's full name, e.g. Natsuki Kuga and Shizuru Fujino from Mai-HiME are Natsuki Kruger and Shizuru Viola in Mai-Otome. What is the trope for this?
Edited by MarqFJAopenCoattail-Riding Edition (SOLVED) Anime
The Lady Snowblood movie was mentioned as one of the inspirations for Kill Bill. When Kill Bill was at the height of its popularity, Dark Horse published a translation of the manga, with the cover having the same "black letters on yellow background" visual as the Kill Bill poster.
It's not a Mockbuster or a Dueling Show, but the translation was obviously published to capitalize on Kill Bill's success - what is that trope?
Edited by PisthetairosopenKnowing exactly how long it's been since an event took place. Anime
Is there a Trope for this? A Character can remember exactly how long it has been since a certain event that has happened several years/months ago, and can specify it down to the last hour or second.
openFaceless Except For Eyes Anime
Usually a manga trope where a character's face is outlined but only the eyes are drawn (or the character's entire face is a flat black shape with the eyes placed on it), usually bigger than normal.
Usually done during very tense moments so the eyes have reason to be huge, like an Enemy Rising Behind the character.
A similar case (often for evil characters) is where the mouth is the only visible facial feature, and even then drawn as a very thin crescent.
open"Hates wearing Dresses" But for Men's clothes? Anime
Is there a trope for when a character absolutely hates wearing Men's clothes?
In Re:Zero the character Ferris absolutely hates wearing any type of men's clothes, and is only comfortable in girl's clothes such as dresses. When they have to wear men's clothes, they feel very uncomfortable and may even cry. Should I just list it as an inverted trope?
openBarefoot Ninja Trope? Anime
Is there a trope for it? 'cuz it's pretty common in anime and especially fighting games.
open(Spoilers!) Anime
What trope fits this?
- Tweeny Witches: Sigma wants to help the savior prevent the destruction of the Magical Realm in honor of his Disappeared Dad, who was martyred in front of Grande for opposing the use of dark magic. However, he not only refers to the wizards with disdain instead of sympathizing with them as fellow defiant victims of Grande's tyranny but also expresses surprise when Sheila and Arusu throw themselves in an attempt to save their friend, Eva, from falling off a cliff. The latter part may have something to do with the fact that he considers her The Load, though.
openWin! Win from Afar! Anime
Bob is getting in a desperate battle with an enemy, and it may be the final battle of the series. Alice senses that Bob is in a desperate battle and prays that he wins.
Either she is sensing his chi or she just has a strong feeling that he's in a battle.
openBig EHHHH???? Anime
A popular trope in anime. A character shouts "EHHHHHHHH???" after something wacky happens while the camera pans to the sky.
openThe main "power" of a series Anime
Like Stands in Jojo, Ki in Dragon Ball, etc.
Edited by JRads47openNo Title Anime
Do we have a trope for this? I thought it was Greed, but the trope page defines it as "wanting wealth more than anything else."
- Tweeny Witches: The Adventures: Even though the Ice Witch from "The Ice Witch and the Dragon of Fire and Ice" was already an extremely powerful Weredragon herself, she attempted to absorb the magic of Gana, the most powerful witch serving the grand master, as part of her plan to Take Over the World.
openTech Weapon Fails at worst possible moment Anime
Specifically, a laser on a Powered Armor. Due to overload/overuse.
Could not find it searching the site or in the Iron Man pages.
Also, Reliably Unreliable Weapons does not seem to fit.
openNo Title Anime
Is there a trope for the following? I think Out of Order would be shoehorning because the work is an episodic OVA.
- Tweeny Witches: The Adventures: "A Heart Sealed Away" is the second episode in the original Japanese release. The North American release, however, positions the episode as the fifth.
openBadass sigh Anime
Is there a trope for when, after performing some badass, full-power feat that amazes and terrifies everyone, the character simply exhales, just to show it took effort out of them?
openFake attack to rescue sentimental item Anime
A character, usually the protagonist, blindly attacks a villain. Side characters go "No don't!", the villain smirks and kicks their ass. Dust settles, main character stands up and has an item of sentimental value in their hand, that the villain had stolen earlier. Usually either something important to the protagonist or to one of the side characters that didn't believe in the hero.
One example is Naruto. During, I think, the Zabuza arc, Naruto bumrushes the villain, villain boots him away, and Naruto stands up with his headband.
openIt had great animation! Anime
I remember seeing this show on Amazon, but I just can't recall the name, and it would take forever to try and find it again.
The show starts off with this young man, you never see his face, and it is live action. He is an artist and draws a character on paper. The rabbit then comes to life and causes trouble for the artist. The artist then draws a dog to be loyal to him and catch the rabbit. The whole show takes place on the young man's desk. The rabbit fights like a ninja.
A character that is constantly changing costumes akin to Final Fantasy games where changing jobs alters the look of the character. This is meant in a "magic" sense not just a plain clothes switch. Sakura Cardcaptor is a good example of this.
