Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.

Ask the Tropers:
open Why does YMMV exist when only certain works are allowed to have negative views expressed about them?
Why is Undertale exempt from having negative views from people who have played it mentioned on the YMMV page, when other works' YMMV pages are often devoted to people whining about the game and everything in it?
open Problem Troper
Wingnutty has a huge hateboner for Undertale. I think a mod needs to step in.
open Can't see any subpages when I access a work now.
Hi, I can't access subpages any more, at least not through a work. They definitely still exist but I'm wondering what's going on.
open Something is the matter with Persona 3
While cleaning up main page wicks, I came across Persona 3... but for some reason, most of the subpages are not appearing at the top (including the page itself, bizarrely enough). If you need proof that Persona 3 has subpages, look here. What exactly is happening there?
Edit: This appears to be happening on... ALL of the pages now?
Edited by MegaMarioManopenUhhh... Web Original
I generally have no idea what's going on over at DarthWiki.Pokemon Peace Squad in general, but the Executive Meddling trope listed seems off-color, talking a lot about real-life persons and such. (The page is also maintained by the co-creator of the series, but i thought there was some rule against heavily troping your own work?)
Basically I'm just really confused.
openNo Bisexuals?
So is No Bisexuals about
- bisexuals exist in a work but is never called "bisexual"?
- a statement about "there's no such thing as bisexuals" regardless of whether they exist or not?
- Bisexuals just plain doesn't exist and everyone is either hetero or homo?
- all of the above?
openSinkhole Seems Inaccurate
I was looking at the Star Trek the Next Generation page and I noticed someone had sinkholed to Token Evil Teammate from the word "Troi". I am a die-hard Trekkie, and I cannot find any reason why Troi is evil, so why did they sinkhole to that page from that word?
openDeleted page?
I still don't understand how the history page works, so forgive me, but does anyone remember Rebecca Sugar's creator page being a lot longer? Like, a lot longer? Now the whole page is just one line and four tropes rattled off, not even organized like a standard page. Or has it always been like that? I remember it being pretty normal, but I could be thinking of someone else...
Edited by ToxicworldopenClarification of rules and/or guidelines regarding self-promotion.
I have been trawling the Administrivia pages for rules and/or guidelines concerning self-promotion, particularly of the brazen sort, and have found nothing. I now ask someone on here for the answer. You see, I have run into some examples of self-promotion that are, as I said, brazen and moderately shameless. If you were to follow the links of this page, then look at the top of the literature sections of each page, you will find a certain work has been spat out on top of everything else. Even if it isn't against the rules, I would consider it impolite. So, what do?
openGoodIsNotDumb
I want to make sure I'm using this right because I feel this trope sees a lot of misuse. As I understand it, Good Is Not Dumb is about a character's kindhearted or good natured choices being ridiculed and condescended to by the villain, before ultimately proving to be the smart, pragmatic thing after all and saving the day. In essence, it's not about a character who is both Good and Not Dumb, but about Good itself proving to not be as dumb as others may believe. The hero's kind-heartedness pays off and wins the day.
I see it used from time to time for characters who are kind-hearted and nice and thus underestimated by foes, but who triumph over those foes by also being really powerful and violencing them into submission. Which doesn't really prove that Good Is Not Dumb, just that you can be Good and also really good at violence. As I understand, this is Trope Misuse.
Do I have this right?

openAnother unneeded Self-demonstrating Character
Dimentiosdragon changed the Sans folder on the Undertale main characters page to first person.
openChanging Title Page
Excuse me, I need to change the title of a page I was working on, how do I do it?
openRemoval in ProtagonistCenteredMorality
This example was recently removed in Protagonist-Centered Morality: "In the first season finale, Barry goes back in time in order to save his mother after being repeatedly warned that doing so could create a singularity that will destroyed the world." with "Maybe best not to leave the value of a mother as a question in the mind of the reader." as edit reason. Is this a legitimate removal ?
Edited by MagBasopen Uploading images in the new TV Tropes. Videogame
Trying to upload an image but with the new TV Tropes version they updated too, I can no longer find the image uploader so I can put an image up on a new tropes page. Any help would be appreciated. :)
openCreating a TVTropes Card Game
My friend and I are creating a tvtropes cardgame and want to share it with the community.
1) I'm planning to post to the tabletop games forum, but I felt (hoped) the game would have broader appeal. Would it be acceptable to post in OTC?
2) What's the best way to reach the admins to discuss the legality of making such a game? I tried emailing thestaff@tvtropes.org a couple times but never heard back.
Thanks!
Edited by MaxwellopenProper Etiquette on Editing Another's YMMV Entry
Other than correcting spelling or grammar, what is the most reasonable approach for editing or removing another's YMMV entry? The reason I ask is due to a fan of a Let's Play group I belong to directly naming one member as The Scrappy of the group when he's really the only one who feels that way. Even though the trope is based around a majority of the fandom disliking that character/person, is it wrong to remove it simply because we don't agree with his opinion?
Shouldn't the mods put up a bulletin warning against ALL text-replace plugins?
