Isn't Apocalypse Maiden in general kind of a spoiler? I'd say no quotes and no pictures.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.^Yes, although you could make the claim that Evangelion's ending is so infamous that this counts as It Was His Sled.

Fight smart, not fair.granted, i generally think of EVA as the Most Triumphant Example Of Everything EVER but... does one really need to know the show to get that image? there's a big, ugly, masked, crucified monster in the background, and someone who seems like an archetypal schoolgirl in front of it, hair blown by Dramatic Wind, holding a huge-ass lance. if that doesn't scream Apocalypse Maiden, i don't know what does.
and also, how much of a spoiler is it that there is something off about rei, when the first time we ever see her, like one minute into the series, she basically vanishes into thin air? besides, it's not like the picture is telling us what her choice is.
i do admit to being very fan-myopic about Evangelion, but i think we'd be hard-pressed to find a better picture than that one.

I think that it's a good picture, except for its spoileriness.
My problem is that having her there on the page basically says "Rei kills everything". Which is not obvious at all if you haven't seen the series - oh hell, if you haven't seen the movie.

[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.It certainly does look like "a big, ugly, masked, crucified monster in the background, and someone who seems like an archetypal schoolgirl in front of it, hair blown by Dramatic Wind, holding a huge-ass lance," I'll give you that.
But how that links to "She'll bring about The End Of The World As We Know It simply by existing?" That's not a connection that comes naturally. JAFAAC. (Actually, JAFWAC, as there isn't even a caption!)

Jet-a-Reeno!"But how that links to "She'll bring about The End Of The World As We Know It simply by existing?" That's not a connection that comes naturally."
true. but then again, any picture we could find that immediately suggested that, would be a massive spoiler, considering The End of the World as We Know It is generally an ending trope. on the one hand we don't want to spoil anyone so might as well just leave the trope pictureless, but on the other hand, the trope itself is kinda spoilery. what's the rule in cases like this?
i seem to recall pictures of sailor saturn from Sailor Moon posing with her glaive in front of the earth. or was that saturn? if it was the earth, something like that might work. (but someone could interpret that as her protecting the world, so idk... the possibility of destroying the world is sort of hard to convey in an image, unless we have text on it.)
The best I can think of (that isn't a spoiler) is this comical and non-humanoid image:
If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.
Huh, I have no idea what that is, but I kinda like it! It really does sort of get the idea of the trope across, though I'm not sure how/why it does.
Jet-a-Reeno!that's hilarious. though it kind of looks more like a sunflower blooming out of the earth than an explosion. lol, i don't know, it just seems too surrealistic for this trope.
i still think the one we have fits well, though i'm still trying to find that sailor saturn pic. my work LAN is not cooperating, though. and it's been so long since i saw that series, i'm starting to think maybe i just imagined it...
You know to be honest I can't think a sunflower of that size on the earth would be a very good thing either...
If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.Oh, man. I don't know what do with this. I think it's hilarious (please tell me you have a link to a bigger version), but I can also see that people might consider it a little too surreal to illustrate the trope well.
Reaction Image RepositoryI can go either way. I like Rei, and I think the picture illustrates it well, but this other picture does the same job too, with less of a spoiler. My only complaint is that it's... Well, pretty freaking weird, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing in this case.
Why did they burry the fireman behind the tree? BECAUSE HE'S DEAD!Yeah, I've never watched Evangelion, and that chick could just be an Ax-Crazy murderer for all I know. I see a Christ figure but...he doesn't exactly look like a good guy or like she's ending any worlds.
I'd suggest an image of Raven from the Teen Titans cartoon, from when she brings the end of the world.
I loved the Touhou image. It is surreal enough to be obviously not a spoiler (even if it is, I don't know the game story, I doubt anyone would believe) and it cross the trope well. I mean, it is pretty clear it is a girl's head destroying the world. Looks more like a meteor in form of a girl head but whatever.
I think the meteor/head pic is pretty funny. However, just because the maiden might be a dude...
How about combining the second panel,◊ Hellboy in cute kid form, and Hellboy in a hypothetical "apocalypse" mode◊?
Using movie pics: World go boom◊ and Hellboy in "apocalypse" mode◊.
I think the meteor head is a great visual metaphor for the trope. I always thought the Eva pic was too ambiguous- is it Girl with Psycho Weapon? Cute Bruiser? Dissonant Serenity? Eva is too much of a Mind Screw to be really spoiled by the picture, but without context it doesn't convey a whole lot about the trope.

Anyhow, are we good on the meteor head picture?
I've got nothing against it.
Reaction Image RepositoryI like it.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. No one objected, so I put it up. Should we give it a caption or just leave it alone?
Reaction Image RepositoryIf the Rei picture is considered a spoiler, how about the spoof of Rei from Keroro Gunsou instead?
Sooooo the image is pretty much a brazen spoiler for Neon Genesis Evangelion. Probably not a good thing.
