Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Yes, and my sincerest apologies to the thread for bringing up someone previously voted down without expressly checking.

It's not the procedural aspect - it's that whether a character is sane enough to qualify can be a really subjective thing sometimes, and I tend to be uncomfortable guessing at it if I don't have direct experience with the character.

Since the 4th BIONICLE image is too small on my computer, and too big when I save it, I'm using the 1st.

[tup] O'Dwyer. Seems like a clear case of Black-and-Gray Morality.

HERE'S Morgenthaler's argument against Hunt (while also explaining a good point about Frollo). I'm abstaining for now.

[tup] Byun/Byeon though I think.

[tup] Byeon. As for Eugene Hunt, I sincerely don't know. The fact that he hears voices makes you wonder if he really understands what reality is or not.

BTW, since I saw there were enough votes I'm starting the writeup of the Janjaweed Commander from Uwe Boll's Darfur:

Does anyone else wonder how come Film examples generally have one examples per each (there are many exceptions obviously) while TV Shows have like at least two or more per each.

Simple: TV shows have more episodes and (usually) more runtime.

Just to mention that I think we might need to keep an eye on Ashi's mother. Her first actions include stripping her children naked when they were babies and forcing them to burn their skin off in a furnace and then later brainwashing them to kill Jack.

That's almost as bad as what Ragyo did to Ryuko when she was a baby.

MOD NOTE: commented out the spoilers. Please adhere to the rules.

I didn't think it would count as one tbh. The episode has already come out and that there was a post earlier mentioning a specific candidate from My Hero Academia that just happened to have recently come out and he got no spoiler warning there.

It's generally not kosher to discuss any potentially sensitive material from recent episodes until two weeks pass. If you've concerns or interests, PM me.

Being fair, Academia is an ongoing shonen series. Jack has a set end at episode 11 which'll conclude everything.

The one known as Tyk shall discuss a TMNT villain again at the time that is now despite Tyk stating previously that he would not discuss anymore TMNT villains until the fifth season of the turtles who are ninjas concluded.

So I'm gonna imitate Nickelodeon and discuss a new TMNT villain now instead of later. And then wait half a year before ever bringing up this show again.

Who Is He?

Kavaxas is a demodragon from the Netherworld who desires to bring about the apocalypse.

What Has He Done?

With the help of Tiger Claw and dozens of mutated cultists, Kavaxas is resurrected from the Netherworld. Immediately after being awakened, he attacks Tiger Claw, only to stop when Tiger Claw commands him to using the Seal of the Ancients. He then commands Kavaxas to attack the turtles; bound to the seal, he obeys his master's orders before Tiger Claw later tells Kavaxas he will help him revive the Shredder. Later on, Tiger Claw commands Kavaxas to bring Chris Bradford/Rahzar Back from the Dead. Before he can revive Shredder, Kavaxas informs Tiger Claw he needs Shredder's heart and helmet, or else the revival process won't work. Kavaxas joins the Foot Clan as they roam around the city looking for Shredder's helmet. During their search, Kavaxas encounters Hattori Tatsu, a blind warrior trying to take over the Foot clan, and sucks the life out of him. Kavaxas steals Shredder's helmet and returns to his lair.

The Foot seeks out Shredder's heart next, targeting Don Vizioso and his gang. After Bebop and Rocksteady fail to steal the heart, the Foot finds Vizioso hiding out in a hotel. Kavaxas and the Foot clan attack Vizioso's gang and the Turtles; Kavaxas sucks the life out of the Hammer and presumably kills a few other goons. During the fight, Kavaxas tries to steal the Seal after it's dropped during the scuffle, but fails. Tiger Claw gets hold of the Seal and commands Kavaxas to retrieve the heart. He does, and returns to his lair so he can bring Shredder back to life.

It turns out that Kavaxas was playing Tiger Claw all along. In order to take over the world, Kavaxas needed to resurrect an evil warrior (Shredder), he had to destroy a great warrior (Tatsu), and he needed to destroy the Seal of the Ancients, which Shredder crushes beneath his foot shortly after he's revived. With Rahzar and Shredder under his control, Kavaxas proceeds to unleash the spirits of the Netherworld. Lots of chaos ensues à la Ghostbusters. The Turtles and their allies and Tiger Claw team up and battle Kavaxas and Undead Shredder, and it's Mikey, of all characters, who saves the day when he puts the Seal back together. With gum.

Because.....erm....he's "super-dope like that, bro."

Anyway, Mikey forces Kavaxas to return New York City back to normal and to bring his undead minions back into the Netherworld. Mikey then forces Kavaxas to open a portal back to the Netherworld, and Undead Shredder tackles him through the portal before it closes, sealing them forever.

Freudian Excuse?

No.

Redeeming Qualities?

He's voiced by Mark Hamill.

Does He Have Loved Ones/Friends?

No. Kavaxas serves Tiger Claw because he has to. Shortly after he resurrects Shredder, he wastes no time betraying him. Rahzar is also just a minion to Kavaxas; he was mainly resurrected so Kavaxas would have another fighter on his side.

Heinous Standard?

Kavaxas is one of four villains in the series who nearly succeeded in destroying New York City, let alone the whole world. The other three are the Rat King (who is already a CM), Kraang Prime (I will get to him. Eventually), and Captain Mozar and the Triceratons, who don't qualify. Up until his final appearance, Kavaxas didn't have many resources besides his own natural powers. He's on par with the Rat King and serves as an Arc Villain, not a Big Bad for the season like Kraang Prime and Captain Mozar, or a Big Bad for the whole series like Shredder was.

Given that he resurrected the series Big Bad, and then nearly brought about the apocalypse in a mere four episodes, I say he passes in this department.

Final Verdict?

Seems like a keeper, but I'm always eager to hear other opinions.

I know Samurai Jack's fifth season is still airing so we can't talk about candidates who's arcs aren't complete yet but what about one-shot, Monster Of The Weeks? There is one Monster of the Week that I feel is REALLY bad.

If you're talking about who I think you're talking about, I think we still have a week to go before discussing him. Plus, Scraggle has Samurai Jack discussion reserved and all that.

"Miked then forces Kavaxas to open a portal back to the Netherworld,"

Wow that sounds lame.

Does Kavaxas have anything extra besides "take over/destroy the world"? Looking at Rat King's entry, he also had mind raping splinter and experimenting on kids.
