Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[tup] to Florian Greenheart, Danada, Pincer, Jasper Calhoun, Hemi Cane, The Joker, Blood Hunter Symbiote and Majestic.

Honestly the bit about the child killing gives me a pause on Finch (even in this series that is still not common) but to my memory I can only remember it happening once, that coupled with the fact their was only one human teacher left in the school by the time Finch had his cronies eat him, I'll say its just not enough.

Yes to Romelau.

Maybe Orror just kept flipping pages and got so shocked that movie got made every time they saw the description their brain blanked their last evaluation from their mind to protect itself from unpleasant memories?

Yes to Joker, the Blood Hunter symbiote, and Majestic! Great work, y'all!

Ok, major thanks to Lighty for recommending this one!

What's the work?

The Osiris Child, sometimes known with the subtitle "SCIENCE FICTION VOLUME ONE" (sincerely doubt we're ever seeing that Volume Two lmao), is a 2016 sci-fi action flick that tells the story of a future in which humanity, primarily ruled over by the corrupt Exor corporation, has begun colonizing other worlds. Primarily set on a heavily-desert world where a penal colony of a few hundred thousand humans are trying to start a civilization, as the hovering Exor military sky station the Flotilla monitors all, things go bad fast when monstrous creatures known as "Raggeds" show up apparently out of nowhere and start tearing through the populace of the new colony like a hot knife through...uh, anything something soft, idk.

And so lead characters Kane and Sy team up from different ends of the galactic spectrum to try to save Kane's daughter from the Ragged threat while learning its source is much closer to home than they realized...

Who are General Lynex and Warden Mourdain? What have they done?

General Lynex is the military commander of the Flotilla overseeing the penal colony in the name of the Exor corporation. A cold woman who "only cares for her place in the galaxy, not the people in it", Lynex is housing a deadly secret: while on one portion of the planet, the penal colony exists, on the other, she works with the sadistic Warden Mourdain (Jango and Boba Fett himself Temuera Morrison) to operate a brutal Hellhole Prison where enemies of Exor are thrown.

The Warden runs the prison horribly, abusing defenseless prisoners with beatings and allowing violence to reign, with his special punishment for anyone who crosses him being a particularly horrid torture: being placed in a small, constantly rotating room ala a hamster wheel so that prisoners are constantly forced to walk, crawl, or tumble their way through hours, days, weeks of existence, most prisoners going rightly insane from the process.

The truth of the prison is the worst part, however. The "Raggeds" are being bred there by prisoners being fed to them on the regular, reduced to either food or, the much worse fate, having their bodies agonizingly transmorphed by the Raggeds to become one, ever increasing the army of them. The Warden and General's plans? To create a massive amount of Raggeds, then use them as literal genocide machines. To unleash them onto worlds ripe for human and Exor colonization, let them decimate the population, then use their control over the Raggeds to reign them in and pave the way for Exor to colonize the world.

Unfortunately, their control over the Raggeds isn't nearly as firm as the General and Warden think, and the Raggeds wind up getting loose, slaughtering the Warden (implied thanks to memories of the horrors he put them through as prisoners), and going on a killing spree across the civilized colony. The General, panicking at the idea of her being exposed for the experiments and not handling the Raggeds properly, decides to take the logical option: frame the Ragged killings on "terrorists" who are threatening to detonate the local nuclear reactor, then detonate it herself and kill the entire population of civilians and Raggeds alike as a massive cover-up. The General is so hellbent on ensuring the event is covered that she orders her men to open fire on and kill anyone even trying to find shelter at the nuclear bunkers designed to protect the populace.

Aaaaand....ultimately, the General's plan works. Everyone dies except for Kane's daughter Indi and the badass Sy, buuuut while all seems lost, Indi and Sy—transformed into a Ragged, but having the willpower to retain his sentience—steal a ship and begin heading for the Flotilla and Exor, hoping to expose Exor's evil and punish the General personally...

To be seen in Volume 2! Which I doubt you ever will! :D

Mitigating features?

None for either that hold up, the General paints herself as a Well-Intentioned Extremist just trying to "save lives" by avoiding the controversy of Exor's experiments being exposed, but she's truthfully nothing but a ruthless, self-concerned sociopath who casually dines on food while disinterestedly watching the Raggeds slaughter people, and is just trying to cover her ass for her hand in the prison project.

And the Warden's just a total dickhead sadist, smug and arrogant to the bitter end without a single good quality even entertained.

Heinousness?

Both are party to the Ragged experiments, and each have their own extra nastiness; the Warden runs the prison horribly and utilizes thosr godawful spinning rooms, the General decides to nuke the population to wipe out all evidence of her crimes even when her advisors suggest saving the population is a viable option.

Final Verdict?

Easy duo, prolly give them separate write-ups but their crimes are similar enough that one EP covered em both

Yes to the General and Mourdain.

More Marvel! This guy comes from the first five issues of the 2018 Exiles.

What has Time-Eater Kang done?

The Kang of Earth-18854, Kang attained a level of power beyond his main counterpart by butchering his reality's Galactus, absorbing his power, and turning his decapitated head into a hideout. Kang proceeded to start wandering to other universes and repeating the process, massacring thousands of other Galactuses until his power was through the roof.

Dubbing himself the Time-Eater, Kang proceeded to reason that the only way to conquer reality was to become reality. Kang goes about devouring thousands of universes and all within them. The Exiles are formed from the sole survivors of their respective universes; not even a cutesy saccharine universe full of "Adorable X-Babies" is spared.

Massacring many of the Watchers on the side, Kang's goal is to devour all existence, and he comes damn close. He even ruthlessly abuses other versions of himself, attempting to murder the younger, good version of himself (Iron Lad) and using hundreds of others as disposable cannon fodder. Ultimately the Time-Eater's ripped apart by all those he's bereaved of their universes.

Any mitigating factors?

For a villain at the absolute top of the power scale, Kang's body count and scale are exactly what you'd expect them to be. He doesn't have any of his main counterpart's good qualities or even have Galactus' "I'm always hungry" excuse. His motivation is nothing but pure greed.

Conclusion?

Keeper. Kang number two, I think—definitely for me, but I also think just in general.

Yes to Ravok's, yes to Kang.

Wait...this dude was able to kill freaking GALACTUS (times thousands!), and yet managed to be stopped by the Exiles??

Oh, wait, looking it up, they managed to de-power him first. Also, this made me laugh:

The Time-Eater responded by incinerating Wolvie, only to witness Wolvie pop back into existence like a cartoon character. After trying and failing twice more to destroy Wolvie, who attempted to befriend the annoyed Time-Eater, the Time-Eater trapped Wolvie in an energy cage until he could later figure out how the destroy the small hero.

EDIT: And, having clarified Romelue tries to kill 16 children, yes to him as well.
