During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Also, I don't want to seem pushy on cuts. It's just that the Far Cry heinous standard is almost parody at this point.
Edit: Yes to Jose.

Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.to Dr. Edgar Reyes, Earth-50 Lex Luthor, and José Castillo.
RIP Chris Ayers.
God rest Chris Ayres.
Jose
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."Fair thee well, Chris Ayers. May angels sing you sleep.

And an utterly expected yep to Jose Rav!
Any more votes on Lex?
José Castillo. Ironic that he counts but his uncle doesn't. Funny how Diego is literally the only member of the fan that ISN'T an actual villain (To say I was pissed off when Juan tried to kill him was a huge Understatement.)
Also, RIP Chris Ayers. AKA the actor of the legendary Frieza.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Draftsto the Far Cry baddies and Lex Luthor
RIP Chris Ayers.
Honestly fine with Lex and yes to the Far Cry villains. I've played the games and Ravok's right, everyone is fine to stay, over the top as it may be.
Josè and Lex
RIP Chris. Having gotten to meet him a few times at cons, I can say he was a cool dude with immense talent.

"No running in the halls!"Yeah even within the high heinous standard in Far Cry, Yuma’s still unique given that horrific Mind Rape she subjects her victims to the point where they commit suicide out of immense agony along with the horrible condition found in her prison and the high number of victims that she has collected. Surprisingly among all the candidates that we got approved we still haven’t gotten a cover villain to count. Also I have got to play Far Cry 6 soon!

Yes to the Far Cry duo (A little disappointed Esposito couldn't get his first) and a yes to Lex as well.
RIP to Chris Ayres; goddamn legend he was.
to Jose and Reyes

Young Justice is a show that starts out focusing on the sidekicks of the Justice League, but gradually expands its scope to pretty much the entirety of the DC universe. One of the major characters in the first season is Red Tornado, a robot with wind powers and senior member of both the Justice League and Justice Society.
The Candidate
Doctor T.O. Morrow (not the candidate) is a Mad Scientist who decided to build robotic superheroes to infiltrate the Justice Society. After a few failed attempts with Red Torpedo and Red Inferno he finally succeeded with Red Tornado... only for RT to become an actual hero. Nevertheless, a few decades and a robotic duplicate later (dude was getting too old to do evil stuff himself) he finally recaptured Tornado.
Uploading all the information collected on the heroes into his latest creation, Robo!Morrow is immediately killed by "Red Volcano." This Red intends to continue Morrow's plan by erupting Yellowstone's dormant super-volcano using his earth powers. This will kill millions, and those that survive will be trapped "under an impenetrable cloud of ash" while the Reds create more versions of themselves, turning Earth into a Red Planet.
When the Team show up Volcano sends Tornado out to kill them and "prove himself a loyal Red." Tornado tries to fake it, but Volcano sees through his tricks and takes to the field himself to murder the "meatbags." He initiates the eruption but is dragged into the lava by Inferno and Torpedo, while Tornado funnels the ash into space.
He... somehow... returns in season two, sent by Lex Luthor as part of a plan to get the superpowered Runaways on his side. Instead of seeking complete genocide he attacks Star Labs in search of parts of AMAZO, an android that could copy the powers of the Justice League — not sure how Lex factors into this, but Nightwing assumes Volcano wants to incorporate AMAZO's tech into himself. Not sure why he isn't trying the genocide thing again, but I'd assume he was damaged in the previous fight.
Anyway, he tries to murder some more children who get in his way, even using using them as hostages when he begins losing to Blue Beetle. He's accordingly blown up, seemingly gone for good this time.
Heinous Standard
Within minutes of coming to life he decides to create a world-wide nuclear winter. The only other villains who really match that level of evil are Darkseid (who's Darkseid) and the Reach (an alien empire). This is just one robot dude, who explicitly tries to murder all life on the planet in his first appearance. Passes easily.
Mitigating Factors
He says his programming made him transcend any concern for humans, but... I don't think "lack of concern" should lead him to immediately deciding to enact genocide. Like, come on. That's a bit overkill. Plus, it's specifically humans he's programmed to not care for, yet he's still just as dismissive towards Superboy and Miss Martian for being "meatbags."
He makes a sad remark about how "father would be so disappointed" when the other Reds turn on him, but that's kind of canceled out by the fact that he tried to murder Morrow. I'm pretty sure he only cares for his siblings in a "they're loyal to me" kind of way — notably, Tornado had his voice disabled after being recovered by Morrow, and Volcano never even acknowledges the idea of turning it back on. Torpedo and Inferno, meanwhile, just stand silently in the background as Volcano rants about mass genocide before being convinced to stop him by Tornado.
Other than that... yeah, no. He's easily one of the most monstrous villains in the show, and personally one of my favorite one-off villains — when Black Beetle was first introduced calling humanity "meat" while wreathed in shadows I got very excited.
Also, despite the volcano thing apparently being his plan, Morrow doesn't count — he/his-robot-duplicate-I'm-assuming-acts-the-same-as-him shows pride in his creations, and in any case the plan gets completely hijacked.

to Red Volcano.
Red Volcano sounds fine but I find it weird he hasn't been brought up before.
CM Sandboxes, MB SandboxesLex, Reyes, José, Red Volcano.
RIP Chris Ayers.
I am the one, I am the one, the godlike terror train, superior artificial brain, feel free to call me BlaineYes to Red Volcano - and I just gotta say, at this point I don't know why we keep getting surprised at the works that get brought up here. This entire website began as a fan site for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and that franchise has gotten five new keepers just since I got here - if that isn't proof that we're not gonna run out of places to find them no matter how "obvious" they may seem, I don't know what is.
Holy shit, yeah, seriously RIP to one of the best CM voice actors of all time. Damn.
Take all the time you need Scrags, health comes first always!
Next up....
Who is José Castillo? What has he done?
The sadistic, flamboyant, pompous nephew to Antón Castillo, José is the air force commander in charge of not only fumigating Yara's tobacco fields with PG-240, but also overseeing the labor forces tasked in working the fields.
Naturally? José treats the job like a slave driver would, working enslaved Yarans for over 18 hours a day while whipping and beating them, and the PG-240 fumigation process is, uh, lethal to all who breathe it in, so literal hundreds of people under José heel either drop dead on the spot, or develop lethal cancer from the fumigating.
José is properly introduced by casually stabbing one of his subordinates through the skull with theatrical relish, immediately promoting a shocked bystander to the subordinates' position. As Dani tries to find out more about José's operation, they discover a...lovely bit about José: he has an entire bunker dedicated to torturing people to death, filming the act, and noting down the pitches and tones of their screams. When Dani finds the room, an entire group of people are being violently tortured by José's men, and she finds one of José's notes from over 5 months ago...back then? He was on victim 90.
José later hosts a public execution of several rebels, dragging it out by putting nooses around their necks and slooowly lifting the rope with a tank's barrel...when the popular freedom fighter Carlos Montero springs into action to save his son from the execution? José anticipated this, stuck a bomb onto the son for this eventuality, and Carlos is killed in the explosion. On his way out, just to be a dick? José personally stabs the two remaining prisoners who were meant to be executed.
As everyone from Antón's right hand man Raul to Antón himself grow tired of José's sadistic, impulsive, destructive bullshit, José is eventually confronted by Dani, as well as Carlos's daughter Espada, and though he tries to kill them both while ranting his intent to keep Dani as a torture pet and "force you to watch as I piss in the slit throats of everyone you love", José is grievously wounded and left at their mercy. He spitefully tries to turn the two against each other and, failing at that, tries to brag about Carlos's death to Espada. She puts a grenade in his mouth for the trouble, and the man's head promptly explodes.
Literally no one comes to his funeral except Antón and Diego, and they not only both acknowledge it's just for appearances, but Antón then burns the whole funeral down lmao
Freudian Excuse or other redeeming features?
Goodness, no. He's a GoT Joffrey or LoGH Flegel wannabe, an asshole spoiled brat who uses his connection to Antón to do whatever he wants, party hard, fuck people over and laugh all the way. He's an incompetent, scummy piece of work with nothing even remotely built up as a redeeming quality—the closest thing to a human emotion he has is wanting Antón to notice and like him, but it's purely out of a bratty Attention Whore attitude like a damn child. He literally has a diary entry where he screams about Antón favoring his son over José, and José ranting that he's going to shit on Diego's property for it lol
Heinousness?
As I said, game has plenty of nasty cookies, but José is horrific. Mass slavery and horrible treatment, subjecting thousands of people to PG-240 fumigations that slowly kill them with cancer, killing his own men and prisoners of war at the drop of a hat, running a private torture chamber with easily over a hundred victims, all the nasty threats he makes to Dani about their loved ones....
Final Verdict?
Easy Keeper #2
