During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Isn't this a work by n k jemisen ?
I doubt she'd have something like that ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."to Putana and Scimina.
Scimina.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."Yes to Putana and Scimina
No to Dreyfuss. Even if it’s horrific and brutal, a single murder comes nowhere near the heinous standard
Okay so I checked. Sources are kinda contradictory. Basically from what I've gathered since Krishna is well God, contact with him purified her.
prabhupada went with this from the translation.
Make of th is what you will ?

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."yeah researching her was a bit of a pain because of that since I didn’t know what to make of it. Cultural differences, maybe?
yep

So Ravana, possibly the biggest Big Bad of Hinduism (or at least one of the most famous), cares for his brother? Huh.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Draftsto Scimina, Putnah
to Dreyfuss
Yes to Scimina and Putana.
So I went into my way to watch the sequels of Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom to see if Nyarlathotep is a keep, and yeah he seems like he does enough to count, burning a man alive for failing him, forced Cthulhu to destroy a populated planet, therefore, killing everyone in it and trying to destroy the Earth. Originally Dooslayer was gonna do it but he lets me do Nyarlathotep instead, so I'm doing him a favor and sparing him in watching those god awful films
The only issue with Nyarlathotep counting is that he often calls Azathoth father on a few occasions, in Undersea Kingdom, he threw a one-off line saying "Azathoth will be free! I promise I will free you, father and Thu Thu Hmong (Cthulhu) will make that happen!". Watching Kingdom of Madness I'm not sure if this was explored upon beyond him calling him father but I worried this might be a potential mitigating factor on his character.
It wasn't because Abdul outlived his usefulness, Nyarlathotep killed him because Abdul failed to give him Cthulhu who is named "spot" in this one (yes you heard that right they had the balls to all the destroyer of worlds "Spot")

To back up Powermaster here, indeed the "promise" line is dropped by the third movie. He also only says "Promise", not "promised", reading more like "I swear to god i'm gonna unleash this mindless death god if it kills me". Also, Azathoth is still the same mindless Idiot Sultan he usually is, so why would he care for a mindless force of nature?
Another possible quality, for anyone curious, is that he manages to sway a future Howard to his side by promising to send him back in time to have a normal childhood... only for the second movie showing him killing Abdul, who he promised to take to the Dream Lands, once he's outlived his usefulness. It's also implied that the Bad Future Future Howard comes from is one Nyarly caused, and since he's manipulating him to cause it again...
Yeah, safe to say he's bullshitting.
Still broke the promise either way.

Sure to Aker
Please, trim that. Over 2000 words. What are the worst of his worst actions?
Also, another work cut short?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsBased on the EP, I think I’ll say to Putana given some further thought.
@Lighty I might vote later. Sorry.
I might reserve Organized Crime if no one else has. We’ll see what happens.

Has there been discussion of the Captain ("played" by Pete) in the Disney short The Prince and the Pauper? I can make a case that he fits, but I would like to know if this has come up before.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.yes to Putana and Scimina, no to Dreyfus (one brutal murder isn't enough to stand out in a series like GTA)
The Nyarlathotep thing doesn't sound mitigating to me.
Hope your prepared for an unforgettable luncheonSure to Scim.
Feels good, don't it?I have my doubts, so maybe run it by us before making an EP

Any thoughts on my case with Nyarlathotep, including the argument Doodslayer made against his potential mitigating factor?
The guy gets a pretty humiliating defeat (I remember one of my books showing him having his pants pulled down), that might be a hinderance.
"I'll show you the Dark Side." CM actors and killsDon't really see how it's mitigating.
Putana and Scimina.
He says he's going to kill her, but not for a while. Strongly implying he's going to torture her. Nahadoth's not a rapist.
