Metroid Prime Hunters, specifically. And "dark shit"? MPH specifically is pretty dark, what with everyone being dead and all, but some of them aren't nearly like that. Prime 2, for example, is more on the light side.
Pretty much the only gore outside of the Crocomire fight is little green explosions when minor enemies die in the Prime Trilogy.

Well, from I do know of the franchise, it IS darker than Nintendo's other flagship franchises. It didn't help that Samus struck me as a hunter who's willing to go ruthless if necessary, something along the lines of a Mortal Kombat fighter (and that includes the gore).
