Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard (MB) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.

Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a MB has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's MBs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any MB link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an MB link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved MBs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their MB equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.

Question about this entry. It's only on the theater subpage, should it include his actions in the film?
- Chicago: Billy Flynn is Velma Kelly's greedy, smooth-talking lawyer. After learning of Roxie Hart's incarceration and seeking to earn more money, Flynn decides to become her lawyer as well. Over the span of several weeks, Flynn teaches Roxie how to earn sympathy from the public whilst also manipulating multiple reporters into thinking she killed her victim in self-defense. During Roxie's trial, Flynn cajoles Roxie's husband, Amos, into forgiving Roxie, making her more sympathetic to the jury. In the film, Billy also accuses a district attorney of tampering with evidence incriminating Roxie, evidence Flynn fabricated himself, while also using the evidence to get Velma acquitted. Due to Flynn's conniving words, Roxie is declared not guilty, and Flynn walks away having won another case.

Classy, Refined, Unstable
Right since Serpentina is viable for a cut (although could someone think of a good former mb entry please) I'm suggesting we cut Oculous as well, giving his episodes a rematch out of curiosity.
His actions consist of this:
- He orders the red Ranger to surrender and he'll spare the other rangers...despite the fact that he's part of the Ten Terrors who's goal is the surface world's destruction.
- Obviously the heroes refuse so he basically does a magic version of camping with a sniper and picking off the rangers one by one.
- The Red Ranger then merges with the dragon Fireheart so Oculous summons some Mooks in which the red Ranger dishes out a Curb-Stomp Battle to them and Oculous.
Obviously considering the show, the heroes have to win but Oculous basically magicly camps in another dimension with a sniper and pings the rangers repeatedly then gets killed in a incredibly one sided fight, he doesn't even land any successful hits on the red Ranger in their final fight.
Smugness? Nothing past usual Power Rangers villain hamminess tbh but he's basically like any other Monster of the Week. Thoughts?

It's however you add videos for any trope, which I do not actually know how to do - however that process works, a mod has to approve it anyway, so it doesn't have to go anywhere special

Hey, I noticed an issue with this entry for the The Mummy (1999).
- Ardeth Bay is the charismatic and determined leader of the Medjai and relentlessly protects Hamunaptra to prevent Imhotep from ever escaping his curse. Willing to lead massacres to keep Imhotep buried, his men wipe out Rick O'Connell's French Legion, stealthily ambush the river boat leading Rick's second expedition, and raids the party's base camp before warning them of "the Creature." When Imhotep is set freed, Ardeth becomes of fervent ally of Rick and helps to rescue Evie from sacrifice and give Rick the chance to put down their enemy. When Imhotep rises again to challenge the Scorpion King, Ardeth again helps the O'Connells by assisting on the journey to rescue their young son Alex and valiantly leading the Medjai to defeat the supposedly unstoppable Army of Anubis.
Ardeth Bay and his men didn't wipe out Rick O'Connell's French Legion, that was the Tuaregs. The Medjai just watched the battle and decided not to help Rick, believing he would die in the desert.
Yeah, that's true. Ardeth just decided to let Rick die in the desert without interference.

From Gremlins 2:
- Magnificent Bastard: Upon ingesting a brain-altering substance, the aptly named "Brain Gremlin" concocts a scheme to wipe out mankind for the cultivation of his people. To do this, he orchestrates comical chaos throughout New York City, injecting his underling with a genetic sunblock and masquerading as a financial adviser to ruin investors with terrible advice. Despite his genocidal designs, he is nevertheless a classy monster, best exemplified by him arranging for his minions to perform classical musical renditions when his victory was at hand and genuinely wishing for the betterment of his people.
So I've watched this movie multiple times, and while Brain absolutely keeos...I really can't see where he intends to exterminate mankind. He plans to let the Gremlins run amok to achieve civilization and comments it'd be good to invest in shotguns and canned food, but I'm not sure where he makes clear he wants humanity eradicated. If nothing else, I think he's easily an excellent example regardless.
Alright got a possible cut to suggest here, Serpentina.
To keep this simple she's a Smug Snake (they really go hard on the snake theme with her lmao) who's cunning basically equates to intimidating Hekkatoid to remove two of the ranger's powers after realising she's next to be chosen to face the rangers. When Itassis (another MB) figures out what happened and that Serpentina broke the rules, she immediately rectifies this and gives the rangers their powers back, who quickly kick her ass. She pulls off some cunning sure but considering another MB more or less fucks her over as soon as they found out? I'd be willing to accept the heroes winning the day considering the show but since her defeat comes from a listed MB?
