Misused: Asshole Victim

So now that we're all pretty much in agreement of making it a supertrope like Hate Sink, anyone feel like running a dedicated cleanup to move the examples that fit subtropes to them, like a lot of Ace Attorney AV page are Who Murdered the Asshole examples.

I wouldn't oppose a cleanup thread, if that's what you're suggesting.

If someone made a cleanup thread, I guess we could close this thread in favor of it.

Okay. Also, it just hit me, do you guys think Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist would be fine as one of AV's Sub-Tropes?

Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist would need to be by definition a victim of something first, which it doesn't appear to be.

Part of that trope involves the character being subjected to misfortunes that are intended to be funny.

So if a Big Bad dies (which happens most of the time), would they qualify for the expanded AV definition or are there requirements to curtail its use? I find the sandbox too meandering. Could it go more to the point?

Well, there still needs to be the intention of their karma not being something the audience or characters sympathizes with, so any ol' death is a little too far due to Alas, Poor Villain issues. It's when the villain/asshole dies/gets punished and they were so unlikable you just don't care enough to be sad over it. Hence the specific subtropes.

The problem with the current Danganronpa examples on AssholeVictim.Visual Novels and Who Murdered the Asshole (the latter hosting Nagito and Hiyoko) is that the latter two are Unpopular Popular Characters with Hiyoko being Americans Hate Tingle and Nagito has a multitude of issues mainly stemming from trying to protect Actual Chiaki Nanami and not the AI who his death got killed in the Despair Arc though he was being a vigilante for Hope via Blue-and-Orange Morality. It also doesn't help every Remnant of Despair (the SDR2 cast) were Brainwashed and Crazy by series Big Bad Junko Enoshima to be her minions and are pretty pleasant people in Side/Hope when they are saved making this kind of subverted, with Nagito gaining Endearingly Dorky traits when it comes to meet Makoto Naegi. Also he's got Frontotemporal Dementia so yes, he's not right in the head due to trauma. yeah, I could see us keeping Tsumugi and maybe Hifumi but the others are debatable. It also doesn't help that the ending of V3 is very vague when it comes to what was true about the V3 cast and what wasn't. Pre-Flashback Light they seem apathetic and scared but not outright mean including Tsumugi, which means she could have been brainwashed too.

I see that there's an old cleanup thread for AV. Maybe we redirect cleanup efforts there since it was brought up earlier?

In fact, I'll go ahead and do that because I already said I could close this thread if someone made a cleanup thread, and now that I know one already exists, I can go ahead with that.
