This year's crop of Best Picture frontrunners are... OK? They're all at least decent but none have me hoping for a win as desperately as [checks calendar because what is time] Parasite (2019).
I think Best Actor is the buzziest of the major categories. I adored Garfield in TTB as well, and would find an upset over Will Smith and (apparently, because I don't have Apple TV) Denzel delightful. I hope Kodi Smit-McPhee wins in Supporting for The Power of the Dog.
Lin-Manuel Miranda has been gunning for an Oscar for almost a decade now and probably would be a lock if Disney had sent in "We Don't Talk About Bruno" instead of "Dos Oroguitas" from Encanto, but alas.
Kodi Smit-McPhee would be my choice for Supporting Actor as well.
Another thing I hope happens is that Encanto wins Best Animated Feature. In my mind it is easily the best animated film of the year.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadBruno in Encanto was originally going to be named Oscar. Would’ve been very funny if the song submitted to the Academy was “We Don’t Talk About Oscar”.
"Spider-Man: No Way Home" for Best Picture.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationI feel like at least one MCU movie will get nominated for something, and my bet is Shang-Chi.
It's been 3000 years…I have a faint hope that Wolfwalkers will snatch Best Animated Feature, but it’ll probably be Encanto because Disney. =[
Wolfwalkers was actually nominated last year and lost to Soul.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI had another "Wolfwalkers came out last year?!" time warp moment, but they were already nominated last Oscars and indeed lost to the Disney machine (specifically Soul).

I can't even complain about Soul and likely Encanto winning their respective awards because they legitimately deserve it.
It's been 3000 years…I don't know about Soul, I thought Wolfwalkers deserved more but I thought that basically every year Disney/Pixar won since 2012, no surprise there. Encanto looks like a lock this year, though, as I don't know much competition, so this year I might just go "yeah, Encanto deserves this".
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Damn… you’re right, WW was 2020. But well, Soul was good I admit.
Maybe The Summit of the Gods will be at least nominated then.

x8 You joke but I really like No Way Home, although the best movie I saw last year was probably West Side Story (2021), albeit it didn't change my usual opinions on musicals. My favorite movie was probably a toss up between Dune (2021) or No Way Home. Dune I could see the Academy maybe awarding the nom, No Way Home will probably be recognized by the MTV Movie Awards. That last sentence is not intended to be an insult, I often find the MTV movie awards are very good at looking at sci-fi and fantasy and other niche genres that the Academy turns their nose up at.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midI would actually love a supporting actor nomination for Stellan as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. He was damn amazing
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I imagine Dune v. NWH will duke it out in the technicals at least.
Shang-Chi was probably my favorite movie of the year, but that said, I can't envision any awards it really deserves. Maybe supporting actress for Michelle Yeoh as something of a lifetime achievement award.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I’m hoping that Mitchells Vs. The Machines or Encanto wins Best Animated. If the award goes to Raya and the Last Dragon, I will literally become the Joker
“Now! Let us engage in the art of deduction!”It could definitely get a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for sure.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationI mean. Only one remake has ever won Best Picture. The Departed, which many don't realize is a remake. That 2018 remake of A Star is Born was nominated. So I would not it's impossible for a remake to be nominated.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadLittle Women isn't lacking for adaptations; Little Women (2019) (deservedly) had multiple noms including Best Picture.
One thing I hope doesn't happen which seems like it might because of previous awards shows this year. Jared Leto for House of Gucci. He's been nominated for it at a bunch of awards shows and every time I see it, I cringe because that is not a movie I think is awards worthy, except make up wise.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadJared Leto also isn't really someone who should be winning awards...
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationOf all the actors for that movie, why should they nominate the guy who makes Mario look and sound like an authentic Italian?
It's been 3000 years…Lol you should check out Lady Gaga. She sounds weirdly Russian for some reason rather than Italian in that same film. .

With nominations being announced on 8th, I thought this would be a good time to start this thread. So are there any films you hope get nominated. For me personally my biggest hope is that Andrew Garfield gets nominated for tick, tick... BOOM!.
