Character-Specific Pages (CSPs) are created when individual characters have so many trope examples that they can't reasonably be included on a shared page.
The Administrivia Character-Specific Pages policy details the rules that apply to these pages. All Character-Specific Pages must also follow the basic How to Create a Character Page policy, as well as the wiki's more general policies about spoilers and examples.
This cleanup thread handles the following tasks:
- Reviewing and approving new CSP proposals. All new potential CSPs must be reviewed and, if necessary, cleaned up before they're created.
- Agreeing on page names for new CSPs.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a new CSP is created.
- Reviewing existing CSPs if there's a concern that they need cleanup, or if it's believed that the character may no longer qualify for a page.
- Merging existing CSPs into other character pages when necessary.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a CSP is removed/merged.
- Creating, updating and cutting redirects, as necessary, to reflect these splits and merges.
Crowners are not normally required but, where appropriate, can be used to formalise decisions on any of these points.
If a character no longer qualifies for a CSP, it's often more practical to turn the CSP into a redirect than to cut the page entirely. This keeps the page history visible to users, and also helps to steer offsite 'inbound' traffic (search engine results) to the right place. With that in mind, cut requests for CSPs may be declined and referred to this thread if they don't have a clear consensus.
Comments linking back to this thread can be added to CSPs when needed - e.g. to confirm their creation was approved, to warn tropers that a cleanup is in progress, or to note the date and outcome of a more recent review.
We also have some more general threads for character page help -
- Character Page Cleanup: for trope misuse, zero-context examples, spoiler tagging issues etc.
- Are these character tropes?: for queries about whether particular tropes belong on a character page or on the work's page.
This is not a policy discussion thread, it's a cleanup thread — any requests for policy changes need to be raised in Wiki Talk.
Mod update 07 Mar 2024, reflecting new CSP policy, updated again 22 Mar 2024 to mention redirects for removed CSPs
- Other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups.
- The character's folder is cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero-Context Examples and Wall of Text entries and removing any outdated, misused, or non-character tropes.
- A character's folder is at least 6,000 words/40,000 characters (with spaces). Here is a byte counter.note
- The current character page bypasses technical limitations and requires a split up.
- A single character takes up the majority of a page or is disproportionately bigger than other folders.
Splitting a character into their own page is a major change and needs to be run by the community before it is enacted. Even if you believe a character meets these requirements, they should be run through this thread first. Having other tropers take a look can help spot issues you may not notice or believe to be issues.
Per How to Create a Character Page, character-specific pages should only include tropes that describe the character. These tropes should fall under Characterization Tropes or one of its related indexes, unless they're recurring character traits (distinctive things that the character does repeatedly). If you're unsure what counts as a character trope, you can ask the Are these Character Tropes? thread.
If you have concerns with a general character page, they have their own separate cleanup thread, as do the self-demonstrating character pages.

Atleast it will give us less headaches

Yes, make them redirects, definitely.
And for something like Street Fighter II: The Four Kings, since it only has four characters, I'm fine with keeping the pothole to the redirect page. That's what I did for Ganon; if someone wants to change the stuff in the Sandboxes and YMMV, feel free though. Just don't forget to add the Sandboxes to Complete Monster Drafts.
EDIT: I actually changed most of Bison's.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsSo, Characters.Once Upon A Time Main Characters is 169,711 bytes:
- Once Upon A Time Emma Swan (45,414 bytes)
- Once Upon A Time Regina (94,447 bytes)
- Once Upon A Time Rumplestiltskin (93,322 bytes)
- Once Upon A Time Hook (44,544 bytes)
I think Hook definitly can be merged back (especially since it covers 2 versions of the character while the others don't. Regina and Rumple are good. Emma I am unsure of as once added back the page would be 259,669 bytes. So, she might be fine.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI think Emma can stay.
My personal opinion is that, if when added back a page would exceed 250K, we can keep the page.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI drafted together this quick byte count on the Tekken roster. Kazuya and Jin I think are good to stay because of how big they are, though IDK about Heihachi. I suggested that Tekken 1's roster could be split between base roster and unlockable characters as a possible solution
Character Specific Page cleanupCharacters.Black Clover Patry is 55K bytes, and Characters.Black Clover Eye Of The Midnight Sun is around 85k bytes. Are they good enough to be merged back?
Tekken idea looks good

So, is Emma good to keep seperate?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread(x6) With regards to Jin, technically Tekken 3's character roster could be split into base and unlockable characters. But since Jin's folder is roughly the same size as the unlockable characters, I think there's merit to Jin keeping his own page. Same applies to Kazuya, technically if we split apart the unlockable characters from the standard characters for his debut game neither page would exceed past 210k bytes. But his page is large enough to where I think he'd be a viable alternative compared to only splitting off the unlockable characters. I'm fine with either keeping their pages or replacing them with a page for unlockable characters. Heihachi I agree should be merged back no matter what.

I like this concession. I'll get to moving around Tekken 1 and merging back Heihachi.

Character Specific Page cleanupI think whether Emma remains separate or not depends on if the characters on that page could be split into further groups or not. If there's not a good way to split those characters, then I think having her keep her page would be fine.
There really isn't or at least not one I can think of that wouldn't either be to big or leave the main page to small.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadHere's a sandbox I made for one of the new DA character pages, if anyone wants to give a critique.
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsDon't forget to go to the other Black Clover character pages and remove Patry from the index at top.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI believe Mereleona was already meged but her CSP is still there
Edit: Moving down bellow.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIt's time for the Sponge
- Sponge Bob Square Pants Main Characters is 80,183 bytes (header and image included)
- Spongebob himself has 113,617 characters
- Patrick has 45,466 characters
- Squidward has 73,795 characters
- Krabs has 64,629 characters
- Plankton has 52,061 characters
Patrick can be merged back (making the main character pages around 125,589 bytes)
But I could also merge Plankton (making the page around 177,650)
Anyone good with merging Pat and Sheldon?
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectI am okay with that.
So, I was thinking for the Ducktales pages would it be a good idea to make a triplites page and move Launchpad and Beakley to the employes page and then make the main characters page an index? Though the main villains will still be merged either way. Thoughts?
We could also merge DuckTales 2017: Minor Antagonists and DuckTales 2017: Beagle Boys back into DuckTales 2017: Antagonists because neither are that being 93,431 characters and 26,112 characters respectively.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadHey, I thought I might you guys here with the Sonic the Hedgehog pages
- The main characters page has 102,169 bytes.
- Sonic's page has 124,057 bytes.
- Knuckles' page has 70,217 bytes
- The recurring characters page has 243,814 bytes.
- Shadow's page has 85,934 bytes.
- The Eggman Empire page has 187,290 bytes.
- Dr. Eggman's page has 117,314 bytes.
- The 2nd Modern Era antagonists page has 120,153 bytes.
- Infinite's page has 61,554 bytes.
- The film characters page has 151,554 bytes
- Movie Sonic's page has 66,983 bytes.
- Movie Eggman's page has 72,135 bytes.
Game!Sonic's and Game!Eggman's pages can stay I feel while Knuckles' and Infinite's pages can be merged back.
Regarding Shadow's page, as the recurring characters page is kinda near 250k, I would suggest either moving him to a potential Team Dark page to share with Rouge and Omega, or keeping his page, and having Team Rose get their own page.
The potential character page for Team Rose would be around 71,434 bytes while a potential Team Dark page (discounting Shadow's folder) would be around 62,124 bytes, and with Shadow's folder, the potential Team Dark page would be around 148,058 bytes.
Regarding the movie characters, I feel like it might better to spilt the Extraterrestrial characters and the Human characters into two separate pages while moving Movie!Sonic's page into the Extraterrestrials page and moving Movie!Eggman's page to the Humans page. The Extraterrestrial characters' page (including Movie!Sonic's folder) would be around 142,327 bytes while the Human characters (including Movie!Eggman's folder) would be around 148,345 bytes 137,527 bytes.
Edit- Made a mistake.

BTW, please call me Jake.Joker (2019): Arthur Fleck / Joker is 80K characters while his parent page is 64K
So he can safely be merged back and the parent page would be 144K
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectI vote Team Dark gets a page given they'd be the biggest split from the page.
Character Specific Page cleanupI am okay with a Team Dark split.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread
I am good with making them redirects.
