Soft Split Cleanup

I will remove the soft split in Cue O'Clock because the examples are all mixed up anyway. Like, there's little difference between saying "it's faceshooting o'clock" and replacing the dial numbers in an actual clock with "not fucking around o'clock". I don't see any narrative difference, to be honest.

For FranchiseKiller.Video Games, I prefer there to be folders by genre.

I would rather have folders by genre than no folders or folders by developer.

I'm doubtful about folders by genres because it's common for video games to fall into multiple genres at once that make the split ambiguous. The first example on that page, ActRaiser, is both a platformer and simulation game at once.

There's also that works can shift genre in the same series. Metroid: Other M is on that page, but it is removed from Metroidvania unlike most other games.

I realized both pages of Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 are soft-spitted in a weird way like "General Media Tropes, Meta Tropes, Gameplay Tropes, Weapons Tropes". Since the pages aren't that long, I would like to change them to normal alphabetical order.

I always wondered why we sort video games by genre when we don't do that with other well-represented media like live-action films and TV shows. It makes it a pain in the ass to sort them when they have more than one genre which, in recent decades, it's the rule rather than the exception. I'd rather have them sorted into alphabetized folders.

I kinda can understand why is split that way, it sure is handy, but we don't split all video game work pages like that. And, IMO, in these kinds of categorizing, it's everyone or no one. So, I support reverting the soft-split.

Speaking of, FranchiseKiller.Film doesn't look great for the same reason and something needs to be done with it.

With that said, what I came for:

Layout of a Season is the general formula for TV show seasons: A shocking opener, a tentative mid-season ending if the show flops, a mid-season plot shift to attract viewers, and a cliffhanger season finale.

The examples are soft-split into those categories. The problem is that it leads to the same work being listed twice. An example I want to cross-wick would get listed thrice. Also, for one of the categories, the page tells you to go to another trope to see examples.

Since the description already explains in detail the aforementioned categories, I don't think there's any harm in reverting the soft-split. It only complicates sorting.

I say, burn it all down! I mean, my reasoning is the same as the above. Works tend to be eclectic nowadays, so it doesn't make sense to split examples into genres unless it's a trope dependent on the genre. And even then. So, I vote in favor of getting rid of that sorting and just alphabetize them.

Nothing Is Scarier and its subpages are soft-split between "Wait for it...", "Nothing at all", and "There all along!". Aside from being a hassle to figure out where examples should go (IMO), this leaves nowhere for examples that don't fit into one of those categories.

Sandbox.Franchise Killer Film Cleanup

I made this sandbox page. This page is generally poor other than splits as some examples are not an example at all and better fit Creator Killer and Stillborn Franchise.

The definition of splits is ambiguous. "Wait for it..." and "There all along!" can be interpreted as the same thing. I agree with removing the splits.

I too vote for reverting.

I commend you for such throughout cleaning-up. As always, any example that is misuse doesn't need permission to be moved to its proper trope or deleted.

I'd like to know though what you think about my proposal to remove the soft split of Layout of a Season (this one ).

That page definitely needs to remove splits. It's needlessly complicated and "Lucky Episode 13" folder doesn't have any items at all.

Continuity Announcement's examples are sorted by country and then it has a section of parodies in which all kinds of media are lumped together. I somehow don't think this is a good way to sort it. I propose sorting by media but with a News folder in which the different countries would go; it can also retain the by-country think. Like this:

I think the page isn't long enough to sort them by country. I can count the examples just by looking at it, and there're only 12 bullet points. At the time, the page would be fine just by sorting by media and leaving it at that.

IdiotBall.Live Action Films is soft-split by genre. Is there a reason for this?

Turquoise Owl apparently did it unilaterally back in 2019. I know they got suspended for unrelated issues and didn't appeal, so I can't think of any clear reason.

(On a totally unrelated note, both the Live-Action Film pages for Idiot Ball and Too Dumb to Live are riddled with complaining, but their Live-Action TV folder counterparts seem to only have several complain-y entries; I'm wondering what's up with that.)

Yeah, I was wondering if a cleanup thread existed for the "ball" tropes and if not I'll make one, but the soft split threw me off a lot. It doesn't seem that useful so I vote to undo it.

I think this is the right thread for this.

Both VideoGame.Kindergarten and VideoGame.Kindergarten 2 are split between the "Monstermon" cards and the rest of the game. For context, the cards are a Collection Sidequest (with Flavor Text for each one) in each game, and also a minigame in the second game. I don't think that's enough for a split like this.

We don't separate Show Within a Show except for certain JFF pages, so these splits need to be dissolved.

Series.The Twilight Zone 2019 has folders for trope examples that seem very pre-emptive and short. Not to mention Zero-Context Examples

• A-D: 18 examples
• E-H: 8 examples
• I-L: 4 examples
• M-P: 9 examples
• Q-T: 9 examples
• U-W and X-Z have only 1 example each.

I think all the folder markup should be removed in the least.

The splits should definitely be removed. They're not long to justify it.

Agreed, especially after the ZCEs are removed

Metaphysical Fuel has a soft-split of Powered by a Forsaken Child examples, which... why not just go there then.
