This a sandbox for the Soft Split clean up thread. Tropes will be split into three categories: "Problem tropes", "Ongoing projects" and "Completed"
open/close all folders
Problem Tropes
- Arc Fatigue: Differentiates between "Arc Stall" and "Myth Stall" - are these separate tropes? Or distinction without a difference?
- The Glasses Gotta Go: Soft split between "Straight" and "Played with" examples. Why?
- Two First Names
- Bizarre Alien Locomotion: On first glance, some of these might be sub-tropes?
- Big Eater: Category subpages have been split into thin/fat/average characters, for no discernible reason.
- Black Comedy Rape: Split by gender and/or species affiliation of each end of the assault. May also need a general clean, as not all examples seem to be played for comedy.
- The Tonsillitis Episode: Soft-split between removal of tonsils (Sort of a forgotten trope, as this operation is now uncommon) and removal of wisdom teeth. Perhaps needs a rename?
- Stock "Yuck!": Split by food groupings. Has degenerated into a list of foods that have non-fandoms in their native areas. May need description cleanup as well.
- Nearly Normal Animal: Soft split into fine gradations - This may be a symptom of issues with Sliding Scale of Anthropomorphism.
- No Biochemical Barriers: essentially already hardsplit - maybe just TLP the split segments into full-fledged tropes?
- Alter-Ego Acting: Subtypes, may overlap with existing tropes...
- AcCENT upon the Wrong SylLABle: Split between "Intentional" and "Accidental" —but how can we tell for sure? Plus, accents are a thing...
- No Party Given: Has a a separate example list for Aversions and Subversions. Not sure if averting this trope is in itself tropeworthy.
- I Can't Reach It: Separate folders for various companies.
- Race Lift: Example sub-pages for various flavors. This split seems to have existed back in the mists of time, with no justification other than "For the sake of organization". Not clear if these distinctions have a use, and they have prompted discussions on how to categorize certain examples in the past.
- Hostile Hitchhiker: On-page hard-split with the Inversion of the person doing the pickup being the dangerous one. Needs a sponsor to run the second definition through TLP to see if it stands on it's own.
- The Executioner: 7-way soft split. Many look like "Executioner Meets X." Parts of the page might be better as Useful Notes. Tropeworthyness has been debated since before the launch, not sure if there are viable subtropes here.
- Curse Cut Short: Seven sub-pages, some of which might actually be different tropes.
- Our Presidents Are Different, whose example section is not soft-split but contains lots of category labels, seems like a good candidate for hard-splitting into separate tropes. I think some of them need not be limited to national leaders; for instance, "President Playboy" could accumulate more examples if it were something like Playboy Politician. See previous TRS on the subject.
- Gasp!: This has a soft-split between straight and played with examples. There are too few examples in each section and folder to justify this.
- Good Hair, Evil Hair: Sub-split over a dozen ways based on style and moral association.
- Capital Letters Are Magic: Very odd set of thematic sortings that seem to encourage ZCE and the wrong kind of potholes.
- Animal Testing: Split between "Pro-Animal Testing," "Anti-Animal Testing" and "Ambiguous Examples."
Ongoing Projects
- Fainting Started as a 9-way soft split that drew lines between "Monster Faint" and "Girly Man Faint" for example. We're not sure it's really a trope, though a couple of subsets are obviously tropable concepts. Other bits may simply be indicators for something else. Will re-evaluate as we go.
- Faint in Shock was launched and its examples cleaned from the page
- Fake Faint has been cleaned from the page.
- Sandbox.Hey The Wick Check Fainted shows that around 60% of wicks should be categorized Faint in Shock, with another 20% ZCE. Has it's own cleanup thread to move wicks. Once that is finished, we will re-check usage.
- Big Eater: subpages are split into Thin and Fat subheadings, with no narrative difference shown. Alphabetizing in Sandbox.Big Eater. Feel free to drop by and alphabetize a few entries - This one will take a while! Subpages to work through:

- Comic Books
- Fan Works
- Animated Films
- Live-Action Films
- Big Eater/Literature
- Live-Action TV

Completed
- Asian Airhead: First type was removed from the definition entirely via TRS due to being irrelevant to the inherent Stereotype Flip.
- Cat Girl: Media folders were soft-split into "Biological" and "Costumed" sublists. Catgirls do not take well to being categorized, perhaps due their feline flexibility? De-split to standard media folder arrangement.
- Constellations: Suspected of not being a trope, Several loosely related concepts are listed here. Has been turned into a disambiguation per TRS discussion, with wick cleaning nearing its end.
- Epic Race: Had been split by mode of transportation. This may have contributed to ZCE and decay.
- Nerd Glasses: Was soft-split by glasses style. May have issues beyond ZCE.
- Questionable Consent: Type A/Type B subsplit, maybe a distinction without a difference, but Type B may be a poorly phrased "YMMV" or audience reaction. '''Subsplit was not being consistently applied, so removed it. Other concerns outside of this project's scope.
- Fur and Loathing had several "Related Character Type" folders, all of which have their own tropes. Not really relevant to this trope as used. The description may need a (Separate) cleanup.
Retained Softsplit
- Teacher/Student Romance: Hot for Teacher and Hot for Student are on-page hardsplit, and the wicks for the page show that they are being used correctly. In absence of major narrative differences in how these variants are handled, splitting out separate pages seems not to be indicated. Some cleanup of OPE might be necessary.
