Note: The thread currently has a limit of one post every two hours for non-mod users. Currently, this is hard-coded by the admins, but there are plans to give mods the ability to toggle it without admin intervention. After mods are given the ability to do that, the time limit may be further reduced or removed entirely.
This thread is for discussing the following topics:
- Questions and clarifications about the site's rules and policies pertaining to wiki editing, forum posting, trope launching, and so on.
- If you have an idea for a thread on another part of the forums but aren't sure if creating it would be allowed, feel free to ask here.
This thread is not for any of the following:
- Reporting complaints or concerns about specific moderation decisions (e.g. suspensions and thumps). Report these directly to the admins via the contact form
. Selecting "The Staff" sends your message to the admins only, without making it visible to moderators.
- Queries about thumps applied to your own forum posts (reply to the relevant moderator via PM).
- Ban appeals (use the "Edit Banned" thread in this forum).
- Reporting problems or requesting moderator action in the wiki or forums (use Ask The Tropers or Hollersnote or specialized threads such as "Locked Pages").
- Queries about locked On-Topic Conversations (OTC) threads or banned discussion topics. OTC has its own moderation discussion thread here, and the latest statement on the locked US Politics thread and other banned OTC topics is here. Bluntly, when certain OTC threads and topics have repeatedly caused problems, we're not going to provide forum space to discuss them again until the moderation toolkit is equipped to handle those conversations.
- Cut List challenges and queries (they have their own thread here).
- Requests for changes to the site's code or discussion about such changes', as mods cannot change the code; only the admins can do that. Please direct tech requests to Query Bugs or Query Wishlist, and take other tech-related discussion to the Changelog thread.
- Crowner actions. Please use the holler function instead.
- Discussion about changing or implementing policies. Please use Wiki Talk for that. (Asking whether it's OK to make a specific thread is acceptable; using this thread in place of such a thread is not.)
- Asking about the whereabouts of inactive mods (or other inactive users) before they return, if they return at all. Use the Absent people thread for discussing inactive users.
Posts that use this thread in place of the sections listed in the bulleted list above are off-topic.
We're aware that the Edit Banned thread has a Non-Indicative Name, due to it also covering non-editing suspensions. We're not sure whether the name for that thread can even be edited without breaking the special coding that keeps posting restricted to mods and suspended users, so we're leaving it alone for now, because better safe than sorry.

That's what I recall, but it broke under Fast Eddie and I don't know that it is as much of a priority (compared to, say, security functions, fixing lost password subroutines, or creating the Engineer position).

I think mods once said that they can't see the original title of the page, just the custom title when approving requests? If that was not the case, I'm sure it wouldn't have passed.

Not sure.I have reverted it though.
I have seen some trope pages having custom names, like Psychotic Love Triangle having the custom title called "Psychopathic Love Triangle". Also the times where some tropes with "Equals" in it being customized as "=", even though they're not even mathimatical equations.
The Custom Titles need a bit of monitoring though, and edit reasons on why.

It is now. It was a blue link when the post was made. Looking at the completed cuts (on page 3 as if this post) it looks like it was declined, then cut upon resubmission.

I was banned from Forum Games and Yack Fest back in January for being overly toxic towards specific people in those subforums, and I was told that I could appeal those bans here starting from July. I apologize for not coming to appeal these bans earlier—I took a break from the site for a while afterwards.

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I really think this ATT thread needs locked. It's shown very hostile signs all day, it shows no sign of slowing down any time soon, and has been going in circles for hours - the original poster in particular is continually keeping it going no matter how many times they're asked to stop and has made some negative insinuations about the site as a whole (such as claiming we allow people to use slurs when the main context was about quotations).
Oh dear. I know exactly who that is. That specific user has been banned from the forums multiple times, eventually permanently, for this exact same behavior (keeping arguments in a loop until he is able to persuade everyone to agree with his specific viewpoint, and often by force).

This is also not the second time Alliterator (and Nubian Satyress for that matter, but to a lesser extent here) have tried to use ATT to protest/debate rules and essentially get around their forum ban. The forums is where policy is meant to be debated; they know this and continue to use ATT for these purposes anyway, spawning mega threads that can't get spun off elsewhere without locking them out of the discussion.

I'm surprised a forum ban don't include an Ask The Tropers ban, to be honest. Unless that's tied to editing privileges for some reason. Regardless, it's clear that people can and will use ATT to try to circumvent their inability to post in the forums.

I'm pretty sure it's not? The url doesn't have Main in it and it seems to be in a separate page category.
I just remembered that a TLP ban is a completely separate thing from an edit ban. Maybe ATT works in a similar fashion but a ban specifically for it hasn't been utilized.

I'm not so sure that inbounds is always a very good criterion for keeping a page. Sure, it could be that there are lots of external links to the page, and in that case removing it and leaving all those sites with dead links would be a disfavour to the internet, but it could also be that some popular blogger has linked to it as an aside in a single post. And in that case I don't think the effects of cutting it would be so bad.
