Note: The thread currently has a limit of one post every two hours for non-mod users. Currently, this is hard-coded by the admins, but there are plans to give mods the ability to toggle it without admin intervention. After mods are given the ability to do that, the time limit may be further reduced or removed entirely.
This thread is for discussing the following topics:
- Questions and clarifications about the site's rules and policies pertaining to wiki editing, forum posting, trope launching, and so on.
- If you have an idea for a thread on another part of the forums but aren't sure if creating it would be allowed, feel free to ask here.
This thread is not for any of the following:
- Reporting complaints or concerns about specific moderation decisions (e.g. suspensions and thumps). Report these directly to the admins via the contact form. Selecting "The Staff" sends your message to the admins only, without making it visible to moderators.
- Queries about thumps applied to your own forum posts (reply to the relevant moderator via PM).
- Ban appeals (use the "Edit Banned" thread in this forum).
- Reporting problems or requesting moderator action in the wiki or forums (use Ask The Tropers or Hollersnote or specialized threads such as "Locked Pages").
- Queries about locked On-Topic Conversations (OTC) threads or banned discussion topics. OTC has its own moderation discussion thread here, and the latest statement on the locked US Politics thread and other banned OTC topics is here. Bluntly, when certain OTC threads and topics have repeatedly caused problems, we're not going to provide forum space to discuss them again until the moderation toolkit is equipped to handle those conversations.
- Cut List challenges and queries (they have their own thread here).
- Requests for changes to the site's code or discussion about such changes', as mods cannot change the code; only the admins can do that. Please direct tech requests to Query Bugs or Query Wishlist, and take other tech-related discussion to the Changelog thread.
- Crowner actions. Please use the holler function instead.
- Discussion about changing or implementing policies. Please use Wiki Talk for that. (Asking whether it's OK to make a specific thread is acceptable; using this thread in place of such a thread is not.)
- Asking about the whereabouts of inactive mods (or other inactive users) before they return, if they return at all. Use the Absent people thread for discussing inactive users.
Posts that use this thread in place of the sections listed in the bulleted list above are off-topic.
We're aware that the Edit Banned thread has a Non-Indicative Name, due to it also covering non-editing suspensions. We're not sure whether the name for that thread can even be edited without breaking the special coding that keeps posting restricted to mods and suspended users, so we're leaving it alone for now, because better safe than sorry.

IIRC, it was drama from the roleplay's associated Discord server
Absolute destiny... apeachalypse?Oh that explains it. Thanks.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallYes, it was drama from Discord spilling over into that thread. We still have a thread on that incident, I think.
Optimism is a duty. This was the thread regarding the incident.
ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔The TLP incident started with the de-troping of Badass Gay, which a user thought meant their representation was being taken away because the trope was gone. So if anything comes out of this, it's a Tropes Are Tools-adjacent predefined message saying TV Tropes documents tropes.
OK, so I missed some stuff after I went to bed (and I'll go back and read the whole thing later), but I neglected to mention previously that we had discussion regarding whether to remove things currently on the timeline that aren't major milestones (major milestones being things like policy changes and updates to the site's coding).

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. That would probably encompass most of the 2020+ folder since current stuff are easier to document on the fly than past stuff.
I actually think we might need a Trope Timeline. Not TV Tropes Timeline, a Trope Timeline. Basically chronicles TRS changes over the years—renamings, redefinitions, cuts, and so on. The Trope Epitaph is the closest we currently have, but I think it would be worth it to create a formal timeline for trope changes. What does everyone else think?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper Wallto that. I was wondering why that wasn't a thing yet
Might be best to make a separate for it on either Trope Talk or Wiki Talk.
Macron's notesI don't think so. There's the Renamed Tropes index and at least that's still in TLP if I remember correctly.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I reviewed the previous timeline discussion just now, and I neglected to mention that 5T isn't actually an official name for the Gay draft incident. In fact, when we were discussing the timeline yesterday, Fighteer called that name a meme and expressed his distaste for it.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.5T is rather unclear name for the accident, admittedly
New theme music also a boxFrom where I sit 5T is just an incident of a number of individuals doing something stupid and getting themselves (temporarily) banned for it.
Mass-ban incidents are rare, but we’ve had a number of them (god knows OTC will have had plenty) and I don’t think anyone would suggest making them part of the site history.
The only difference I can see here is that in this instance that people who got in trouble have stuck around after learning their lesson. But it’s a prominent event for their personal history, not the site history.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI mean yeah, it's likely better off forgotten, though it would affect the site's history as well in a way. It's like Columbine on a far smaller and less affecting scale (because you can't really compare suspensions on a site to deaths, I'm not trying to imply that), leading to major changes to prevent future cases (since we made the Sandbox. Were Improving The TLP and had some major reforms since then, not to mention attitudes), but also inspiring copycats (maybe not here, though, unless there's something I don't know of).

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I know what you're trying to say buuuut.... it's not like Columbine, man, LMAO.
I think the only real changes were the discussion of a hat/bomb limit and the ability to see who hatted/bombed stuff. The rest was mostly just broad community attitude changes, being less snarky and more constructive.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Maybe just say that TLP processes were adjusted at a time without elaborating why?
Edited by Amonimus on Jan 25th 2022 at 12:17:51 PM
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupNothing was really adjusted though, that's the thing.
Also, while nobody "in the incident" does it anymore I still see plenty of drafts get mass bombed and snarked at on the regular, so it frustrates me on a personal level because nothing about the TLP really got adjusted. If anything the only real related change is that users now tell the mods to nuke drafts early. (I say related because other changes, like the mods being able to see hat and bomb records and the histories getting fixed, came way later and seem just sort of incidental.)

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessAttitude and technological change to events is gradual. I don't think we can expect everything to suddenly be perfect within a year and a half. None of them do it out of malicious intent either, and chances are someone would step in if anyone tried.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I'm not saying it's malicious, I'm saying it's very telling of how the TLP community as a whole still has issues when it comes to "bad drafts"... especially in that everyone would rather bomb and snark at stubs than actually give criticism to drafts in need of it.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYeah, but back then we kinda did, out of a sense of group schadenfreude. They just don't have a clue and wouldn't go for records or anything like it. So I do think it's progress.
Edited by Piterpicher on Jan 25th 2022 at 10:31:45 AM
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Since drafts have both the 3-day rule and 5-hats rule, maybe disable voting for 3 days to give the draft the chance to imporve, and then the draft gets what it deserved based on effort made.
(Is this even about the moderation?)
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupPlease move this line of discussion to the TLP Community Issues thread.
Macron's notes
I thought the blowup happened because of Discord drama being imported to TV Tropes and someone making a suicide threat? I don't remember a roleplay blowup.
