Ok, guys. I believe in you and that you know what you're doing.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Fingers crossed that the move goes well. :)
oh, that's why I need this binary mind // ⌘Cool guys. Which 11 o clock though are we talking about.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."EDT. Says in the first post. Convert time zones yourself if you want to.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Cool. This is an update that definitely needs to happen. I'm glad preventing another July 7th disaster or Great Crash is top priority.
I still need to make JustForFun.Tv Tropes Apocalypse a thing though.
Hope it all goes well.
Good luck guy's
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Good luck indeed. Thank goodness I won’t be using TV Tropes during those particular hours.
Yay!
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherOh good, maybe I'll be forced to actually sleep tonight.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I still can't believe that I was somehow around for the Apocaypse. Anyway good luck, hope everything goes well.
Forum signature.Good luck, guys! Hope this brings a new chapter in TV Tropes history!
Rock'n'roll never dies!is stuff going to be erased like the last time?
Probably not. If anything, this will be done to prevent future erasure, with more frequent backups.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Got it!
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThankfully, 11PM is midnight exactly in my region and I'll be asleep by then, so I won't have to go crazy frantically typing every single minor edit I want to do into a text file like last time.
"I think if you're capable of entertaining people, then you are doing a good thing. - Stan LeeWe should probably give the July outage a name. "Apocalypse" is a touch too dramatic for a day's worth of data loss.
My suggestion: "The Day The Server Forgot."
I also proposed "The Sextuple Cock-Up", but I understand if some people think it doesn't quite fly under the radar.
my brain is a computer with 4k of ram. this is a jokes wikiThat’s great news!
At least I’ll be asleep by then but I am a morning bird.

good luck! hope the servers don't run away while you're moving them!
and the public won't dwell on my transmission cause it wasn't televised.
We are moving TV Tropes to a new set of servers at a new hosting environment tonight! TV Tropes will be in read-only mode (no logging in or creating accounts) starting Aug 19th at 11pm EDT to the following morning at 10am EDT.
We have done a few test runs and on average it has taken around 8-9 hours to perform this migration. During that time we will have to disable the login/registration system, so the website will be in read-only mode. The plan is to start this tonight at 11pm EDT and then to complete the migration first thing in the morning. I'm setting an estimated completion time of 10am EDT in case there are issues.
As many of you know on July 7th we had the worst outage in the 6 years we've been running TV Tropes. Some of you correctly guessed what happened after it was described. 6 of our 8 hard drives in our RAID failed simultaneously resulting in a complete outage, leaving the data unrecoverable and forcing us to rebuild from backups. This was due to a firmware issue of SanDisk LT0400MO drives where they all self destructed after exactly 40,000 hours.
Since our outage we have been exploring other hosting options and working on updating our code to work with newer software versions. We have also worked hard to reduce the size of our database and make it so we can backup everything daily, including all the edit history. We lost 3 days of edit history on that last outage and I want to make sure that won't happen again. This new setup will also include additional redundancy at every point to further reduce the chance of data loss in the future.
Here's hoping for a smooth transition! Once we switch to the new servers go ahead and post here if you find any issues. I'll put a banner on the home page that will tell you when you are on the new servers.
