Wick Check Project

I'm fine with a move to Long-Term. I remember that was done with the OBC cleanup.

Makes sense to me.

We've talked about moving it to Long Term several times and I think the only thing that prevented us from moving it was the fact that nobody bothered to holler and ask.

But... it's time to move it.

I moved the thread to long term projects. There’s more traffic here than in short term projects so we might get more eyes on the thread.

And more help with wick checking, which will be great.

Anyway, I've decided my next TRS project after Loads And Loads Of Characters will be Stock Parody Jokes, which has misuse and complaining issues. I'll put a link here in case I or anyone else wants to come back to it —> Stock Parody Jokes Wick Check

IDK what's next on my agenda. I might just focus on wrapping up some lingering ones for a bit.

After Meganekko Wick Check (40/63) is done, I want to do three checks on Skirt Over Slacks,Skirt Over Shorts, and Tights Under Shorts because people just use them as meaningless appearance tropes and they all have bad ZCE issues. I think I might put Slacks and Shorts on the same sandbox but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea or not.

Oh this thread has finally been moved awesome to see .

I'm planning to do a wick check on Gang Of Critters, but considering that it only has 59 wicks, I was intending to just take all of the on page examples and analyze them. Is that alright, or do I need to grab 50 wicks from across the 59 pages it is wicked on?

You can just do 50 wicks but I’d do 59 because it feels a little weird to leave so little behind.

Especially since I'm sure at least 9 of those wicks anyway are indices and sandboxes and other useless stuff.

You were right, cleared up indices and Lists of Lists, and was left with 51 wicks.

And from what I've seen so far... oh boy... the 32 I have checked so far are all either potholes, misuses, or ZCEs...

I'd like someone to look it over and get a few second opinions first, but this is... not promising.

Man, second check lately that has a 0% "proper usage" score.

There are a few entries that are probably correct, but they're all potholes or references in other pages, which makes it... less bad?

Eh, there's a reason I throw random potholes into a ZCE folder. I can't assume they're correct if there's no context.

Mayor, I'm glad to see you do Stock Parody Jokes cuz that trope is really bad. But what exactly counts as "correct use"? Do we have to verify that it's a parody concept that exists?

I think it might also be helpful to check for overlapping entries with Memetic Mutation.

In my mind, correct use would be, say, a joke about the mushrooms in Mario being a drug, or a joke about Hallmark movies being saccharine. What would need to be done for such a wick check would be to determine if the jokes in question are truly that common, so yes, we'd need to verify the jokes.

That might be more difficult than it's worth, but I'm willing to eventually take a stab at it just so that we can know what to do with it.

I made a post about this on the TRS meta thread and will make one here too- just made a wick check for Berserk Button, one of the most misused tropes. Given the sheer amount of wicks, getting a representative example is gonna be a Herculean effort. Please help if you can.

Finished the Ill Girl Wick Check and, at a whopping 8/84 correct usages, I think it's clear this one's going to need a TRS thread.
