It is, but as a footnote. I think it could've had a lot of potential if properly explored but for now it's essentially a Gaiden game that marks the only time Dracula was defeated with an empowered whip other than the Vampire Killer.

The fact that it wasn't the Vampire Killer in and of itself was a retcon...

I do prefer Backstabbing!Carmilla though. Vastly.

Maybe Issac or Hector turns their forgemaster powers on Camilla, transforming her into the mask being we see in Simon's Quest and to a lesser extent Rondo of Blood.

I'm kinda curious to see how Isaac and Hector are going to interact in S3.

I mean, if it does adapt the game they're from, they're going to be against one another, but on the other hand, Isaac's nowhere near the same character as the Isaac in the game, so...

Trevor and Sypha aren’t going anywhere (particularly since Trevor was a boss battle in COD) but it’s probably safe to assume Alucard is out of the picture. Still, do people want Hector to suddenly become the protagonist? I imagine the adaptation will be a loose one.

Third season was confirmed today au NYCC, and the preview clip was of Sypha and Trevor confirming it’s a Curse of Darkness adaptation.

Ellis also spoke to his influences in the series, a big one being the Hammer Horror films.

What's so bad about Darlene that that made a Castlevania about her

Yeah, I mean, now that Rosanne is dead in universe, she's kinda the main character and all....cool

But great to hear about a new season. I guess it'll be back next year.

How do you guys think they'll do it? Isaac had a sister, but there's no mention of him having family in this version, and it would mean giving Julia (as well as her Identical Stranger and Hector's first love Rosalee) a Race Lift.

Considering the way Dracula died in this, I could picture Isaac reviving the latter against his will, and maybe Grant's Demoted to Extra status will continue with them just using Hector in his place.

It's a very meta curse that makes her realise she's actually a cursed curse.

Double post.

I just noticed that the way Carmilla looks in this series is actually rather similar to her appearance in Simon's quest.

Considering how these guys doing the series seem to be actual fans, it's not a shock.

Three thoughts:

It's been pointed out that there aren't that many vampires in the series bar Dracula himself, but this series somewhat explains why:

Both Carmilla and Godbrand plotted to flat out betray Dracula. It's possible that Drac decided that Vampires are too untrustworthy, and in the games most other Vampires do try and betray Dracula.

Brauner tried to flat out usurp Drac's castle and power, and so did Olrox in the Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss Novel. Game Carmilla is implied to be loyal, but we don't know much about her, and her animated portrayal might mean that she didn't become this way until she was turned into Spooky face.

Finally, the guys who did the Castlevania III rap did a new version of that one, complete with more Grant and Trevor actually winning:

Happy Halloween folks.

And now I'm quadruple posting because of this accurately named video:

You know, it's funny that Sypha, who's one of the sanest (or at least the one with the least hang-ups among the three heroes) until pulls the dumbest stunt by putting the castle right on top of them. I especially like how it cuts out just as she realizes this. Makes it funnier.

The giddy clapping before that realization really makes the scene too. She's just so happy about what she just did, like it was the most awesome thing in the world until she finally lets the adrenaline peter out and really starts thinking about it.[lol]

I doubt most people besides Drac himself have ever tried to wrangle a magic teleporting castle before. The fact that she managed to do it at all is kind of ridiculous, and the end result let them storm it right away rather than give Dracula and his minion(s) time to recover from all the backstabbing and coups.

Started watching season 2.

My favorite part of the first episode is that they managed to communicate Hector's backstory and motivations in only a few voice clips, and it was extremely effective.

To be honest I still find it a bit of a miracle that this show not only got greenlit but is actually decent and well-received. Apparently Curse of Darkness is season 3? I never played that game, mostly because I heard the 3D Castlevanias were kind of mediocre so I never bothered to pick it up.

Personally I find Curse of Darkness the best of the 3d Castlevanias.

Been a while, but from what I remember the only real fault is that the Mon raising system gives you more tools than what is really necessary to finish the game.

I've never played Curse of Darkness. I know Hector is the main character and Issac is the main antagonist, but I don't know if Trevor and Sypha are plot relevant.

Finished the second season.

"I'm...killing my boy..."

I said it before but I still don't understand how this series exists.

It's an adult-oriented, action-heavy show, with a complex art style, based on a videogame series which isn't really known for having good storytelling...and it's actually great.

I thought the first season was enjoyable but definitely with issues. But this second season fixed most of them and really took the characterization and drama to the next level, unquestionably making this probably the best thing that's happened to Castlevania since...well, since I can remember. It's been dead for a while.

Definitely looking forward to season 3 tbh. Carmilla, Hector and Isaac are strong enough characters that they can comfortably fill the villain roster on their own without Dracula.

Not to mention the first attempt of its studio at Japanese-style animation.

I wonder if they used Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust as a reference, because the general style and atmosphere of the show feels quite reminiscent of that movie.

BTW, if you're still thirsty for more vampire action, I cannot recommend that movie enough. English dub aged remarkably well too.

Don't bother with the 90's OVA, though, unless you're into gratuitous gore.
