It's On Demand now if anyone wants to see it.

Random non-spoilery but fun stuff:

  • Another movie where Daphne is inspired by Be Cool Daph. She's quite nutty.
  • The warp back features clips from Scooby past, including both A Pup Named Scooby Doo and Mystery Inc. Also, there's references to Fred's dad being some kind of Jerkass politician, so they might be doing Broad Strokes with the gang's history.
  • Velma isn't into King Arthur, but she is into Thundarr the Barbarian's abs. Yes, really.
  • King Arthur is the best character.
  • Compared to the previous ones, something is weird about this one's animation. I can't put my finger on it, but the characters' movements are jerkier.

Actual spoilers:

This one does something I've hoped to see in a Scooby production for ages: the hoax was a bunch of harmless performers just putting on a very convincing show, not a necessarily nefarious plan, though some of the performers were using it to pull their own plan and one in particular was definitely evil.

It's also another one that plays around with stuff maybe being real or not - especially regarding Velma. In this case, the whole King Arthur thing was fake, but Merlin and his magic were probably real.

Should we make a page for the movie already? It's been about a week already.

There will be an animated Scooby Doo Reunion Special coming to the CW later this year. It involves the gang reuniting at Warner Brothers Studios reminiscing on their old cases, but then they have to deal with ghosts haunting the place. We don't have much known about the crew, but it's executive produced by Jonathan Stern.

As much as I love this franchise, I wish it relied less on crossovers and celebrity cameos.

Ultimately the celebrity part is worse, though. Some of the celebrities are nigh-unrecognizable outside the USA.

I remember this Stream Soda video about Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! (at either 1:16:00 or 1:26:00, I forgot where though) about how the Scooby Doo formula is so well tread that crossover essentially keep it fresh.

That's not a good indication, then. It seems to mean that the writers don't know what to do with the franchise beyond throwing random stuff at it.

I don't even agree with the assertion, anyway. What's New, Scooby-Doo? was quite different from Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, which was quite different from Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!. It's all a matter of being creative and thinking outside the box.

Whatever happened to the Scooby / Courage crossover, btw?

Maybe it was pushed back. I mean, this Scooby Doo/Krypto movie is likely meant to be a promotional tie in to the Super Pets theatrical movie that's starring Krypto, so they want to push this crossover movie to promote it.

Did we ever get confirmation that the Scooby and Courage crossover exists or at least was at one point planned to exist?

That's one crossover I wouldn't mind, since the franchises have a surprising number of similarities and it'll be fun seeing them together.

[up] Yes. For reference, I made the post about it back in October 2020. The crossover was initially pitched as an episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?.

Well, that's nice to know. Hope it doesn't get stuck in Development Hell or cancelled altogether.

This week's issue of Batman/Scooby Doo pays tribute to the 80s era of Shaggy, Daphne and Scooby (sans Scrappy of course). Looking forward to thatgrin

I wonder if the writers think that acknowledging Scrappy at all will cause an ancient curse to befall them or something.

It's kind of bizarre that they tiptoe around his existence altogether even if they're referring to an era where he was very much around. The Great Gazoo was sort of The Scrappy too and he still tends to pop up in modern Flintstones media nonetheless. And not just as a cheap shot at his unpopularity.

[up] And the one time they didn't tip-toe was that one time he was the Big Bad of a whole movie. Maybe they feel that's a big elephant in the room...like if you have to bring him up again, you have to acknowledge he tried to kill them all because kids who grew up on the movie will remember they did that.

That was a dumb choice in the first place. If the audience dislikes a character, rework him, don't just claim he was Evil All Along for cheap laughs or ignore his existence.

Apparently they also tried to pull this with Gazoo while SCOOB! was in development, but thankfully, that didn't make it to the final version.

[up] When does the monsterverse get their Godzilla movie where Godzooki is the antagonist?

Goodness, I hope not. [lol]

I do wonder why that cartoon used Godzooky at all rather than the actual canon Kid-Appeal Character from the movies, Minilla.

[up][up] [up] I guess it also depends on how would Scrappy be integrated into the gang so he's both likable and useful.

Yeah, turning a scrappy into a villain is a cheap shot, and it can result in the original looking that much more sympathetic, when audiences realize that while the original was annoying, they weren't evil.

Ducktales did the exact same thing with Doofus, whose biggest crime as a character was that he felt wholly out of place in the old show, but was definitely a good guy, even propping up Launchpad as a heroic character in his own right. But the sequel just makes him into this creepy evil child who serves little purpose outside being the foil to one (and just one!) of the nephews.

[up] I think toning down his Leroy Jenkins tendencies and annoying quips would go a long way, as well as getting a VA with a less grating voice.
