It's because the story doesn't portray the situation that way at all. There are absolutely isekai out there that let you know what moral framework the story is using and how you should view characters who fall outside it. In this case, her brother is freaking out because she's making the house look bad and is portrayed comically. Meaning that he views the house dignity as more important than the actual family members who make it up. Which is not cool when that involves forcing his sister to be a 99% of the way to being a slave.

Tsuiraku jk to haijin kyoushi just keeps on delivering. 6 volume so far and its easily one of my favorite current manga. I love how the series has no problem poking fun at shoujo convention while at the same time able to deliver good romantic moments without ever losing its sense of humor. Cant wait for vol 7

Just read a manga called Risei no Hana, an action sci-fi romance series. Set on a far future world, in a country called the Shion Republic. The MC is a guy named Hayato Kirijo, who is the captain of an elite unit within the country's Military Police, the Nousen Hallen. Hayato is currently on a special mission, which is to become a private lecturer for Rise, a very special female child. You see, Rise is actually Chimera Mix, a living weapon of mass destruction that ravaged the world during a world war that happened a long time ago. Chimera Mix are basically human mix with Chimera DNA. They can assume a human form while they're in control of their Chimera side, but once they lost control, they become a gigantic being of incredible power.

After the truce that ended the war, these weapons are supposed to be disposed of, but it seems there are some that survived. Rise was found by the Chief researcher of the country's research facility, who instead decided to raise Rise like a normal human. Needless to say not everyone agree and there are those who wants to use Rise for their own purpose. For that reason, Hayato and the other Nouzen Hallen members are assigned to protect Rise.

The series also focuses on the developing relationship between Hayato and Rise. Hayato insist on treating Rise like a normal human being, despite opposition from his surrounding, including his subordinates. Rise also learns more about humanity and her developing emotions.

It's a pretty cool manga. The story is interesting, the art is just beautiful and the action is damn cool. The characters are also likable. I really like the chemistry between Hayato and Rise. All in all, pretty awesome.

[up][up] It's on my list, though I haven't started yet.

I wonder if The Ones Within got more popular after its anime release at all? The adaptation doesn't include much of the plot, but it's a pretty cool manga. For those who don't know, it's basically about a bunch of Youtubers/LP-ers getting kidnapped by a masked man named "Paca", who traps them in his complex and forces them to play different real-life video games in order to collect "chromosomes" (their ultimate goal being getting 100 million views to escape).

Sorta like the survival game genre, except no one actually dies. There's a lot more to the story than it initially seems; while the first couple of chapters are more slice-of-lifey, the major parts on the manga tend to focus on investigating the disappearances of the LP-ers, and the history of why exactly the island they were kidnapped on was established.

Well, that’d be jus’ a waste. Why would ya want to deprive the world of such anomaly as yourself?

[up] Huh… I had absolutely no idea there was an anime of this. Didn't see anyone talk about it despite the intriguing premise…

Ijōsha no Ai (Aime ton prochain in France): 5th grader Ichinose Kazumi meets a klutzy girl named Midō Saki. She soon confesses her love to him but he turns her down because he already likes another girl. She then asks if he could have fallen for her instead if that other girl didn't exist. He says "maybe, who knows?" So she draws the logical conclusion.

Six years later, Kazumi is in high school and still haunted by the trauma, but thanks to a new love he's starting to find some semblance of happiness. Buuut guess who's back and still madly in love with him?

I'd like to say that this is Murder the Hypotenuse: The Manga, but that's not quite the case… because worse than being killed by Saki is actually surviving an encounter with her. On the plus side, the series is pretty effective in its creepiness, but on the minus side the story feels pretty damn rushed at times. I'm only 2 volumes in but there's already been two time skips and four or five twists. And I'm still not sure if the jarringly cutesy artstyle is deliberate or if the author (who apparently drew slice-of-life comedy before that) just can't draw any other way.

Still a good read though. It has a good balance of physical and psychological horror. Like, the author makes you imagine the night Saki spent "making friends" with her former victim's sister without explicitly showing anything. Just the victim's expressions and reactions say it all.

[up]Read Ijousha no Ai up to the end in mangabox when it was still serialized there. Pretty thrashy and the characters are sometimes, really, really stupid. Pretty much a guilty pleasure.

JK To Sutego No Akachan (JK and the Foundling) - High school girl Momoko finds an abandoned baby under a bridge and, unable to leave him be, takes him home and cares for him at home while dealing with a Stern Teacher Kanzaki at school. Meanwhile, the baby's mother, high school girl Wakana, tries to deal with what she's done as well as with the baby's father, who's happy to hear she followed directions and killed the child.

[up][up] Yeah, the MC isn't exactly the sharpest crayon in the box… "Hey, I've found the psychopathic girl who killed my first girlfriend, tortured my second, raped me and has been hiding her true nature for years − let's go threaten her loudly in broad daylight in front of children. That's sure to go well."

Been reading more Kemono Jihen lately.

This is probably darkest manga I've read in long time that doesn't go into edgy or grimdark straight away at least ._.

Yeah, Kemono Jihen sure is unique. Looks like a standard lighhearted battle shonen on the outside, then it goes delve into stuff like forced prostitution and Breeding Slave.

Skeleton Soldier is back. I've never been good at telling what time he resets back to and this is more difficult than most thanks to no updates in six months. When he mentioned the necromancer still being alive I thought he meant Rubia or whatever, which was particularly confusing.

To Your Eternity is getting an anime adaptation. smile

I thought it would get one earlier, but seeing that the last volume came out in August, I assume there are issues with the author's health or something…?

Yay! I like what I've read of the manga for that so far, and I find I like it better than A Silent Voice (Don't kill me!), so I can't wait to watch it when it airs!

By the way, for any of you autistics and Aspies out there, I've been reading this cute short manga called Aspe-chan. It's a web manga made by an autistic cosplayer, Kuro Akagi, meant to educate people on autism and all that entails. It starts a cute pigtailed moe girl called Aspe-chan, who is basically the Author Avatar for Akagi, and the manga details her life, her experiences living with being autistic, how people reacted to her, her advice on how to deal with certain situations, so on and so forth. Unlike most of its contemporaries, which tend to play up drama and tragedy for the sake of inspiration porn, Aspe-chan just tells it like it is straight up, in the vein of "Hey, this is what I dealt with, and for anyone reading, here's some advice on how you can handle this, should you find yourself in this situation." It's actually very well written, informative, and even nuanced. Some of the more recently translated chapters deal with how easy it is for neurotypicals to judge autistic people harshly, without looking at the big picture (Such as a teacher accusing Aspe-chan of ignoring her, when she wasn't and just didn't notice her, but the teacher doesn't believe her, gets angry, and tells her to apologize, even though Aspe-chan wasn't really doing anything bad), and how experiences like that can negatively affect their self-esteem, to the point of developing anxiety and depression later in life. I can definitely relate to these particular parts, as I had to deal with this a lot, both when I was a kid and even now, even amongst my own family members.

Check it out if you can. I know it's being posted on Manga Dex, but I don't know where else.

I haven't read much of To Your Eternity so far (for no particular reason, I didn't dislike what I read), but is there a reason to compare it to A Silent Voice, other than you liked one more than the other?

I may be missing something, but it sounds (to me) as random as stating how you liked it better or less than Dragon Ball.

Yankee-kun to Hakujou Gaaru

Description: The protagonist, a notorious delinquent, meets and falls in love with a partially blind girl and learns how to accomodate her disabilitiy. Aside from the cute love story, it also demonstrates a lot of emphasis for people with disabilities while not portraying them as helpless, indeed one of the things the girl likes about the protagonist is that he is aware of her disability, but does not treat her as helpless.

[up] I like that one a lot myself.

JK To Sutego No Akachan (JK and the Foundling), the manga I mentioned earlier in this page, had its final chapter recently. I think it's a solid candidate for Earn Your Happy Ending, but still working out if it's Bittersweet or not. It is for at least one character, but not on the whole.

Wow. Light and Shadow is actually letting the MC live up to her badass credentials which had just been an informed attribute up to this point. It also had an interesting way of maintaining tension in a battle scene that she couldn't really lose.

Now I just need to hope it doesn't piss away my good will via the annoying redhead.

Solid 9/10. Kept waiting for the MC to get damsel'd or need to get bailed out and it never happened.

So I just learned a series I'd seen before but only had one chapter translated isn't just a one shot. It's one of those twisty premises I tend to enjoy:

Jisatsushitai Onna Yuusha Ni Maou Ga Komarasareteimasu (The Devil is Troubled by the Suicidal Heroine): The Devil King has come face to face with the heroine... who promptly throws herself on the floor and demands the Devil King cut the monologuing and kill her.

Turns out our heroine, Mana, was isekai'd to this world and given immortality to be its heroine after committing suicide in her old world. The thing is, she's no less suicidal now than she was then, and if the Devil King can't kill Mana, she'll kill him.

Ever since I first saw it I'd only seen the one chapter so I was never entriely sure if this wasn't a one shot, but a new chapter updated today so there may well be more to come.

Ok this is an anime buut..

So just I just watched the first ep of Night Head Genesis just now. And it's really good. I didn't expect it have so much depth and the characterization is very good.

It's an anime about two brothers who were born with psychic powers. They couldn't fit in with normal people because they couldn't control their powers well especially when they are overwhelmed by their abilities due to being so young. Their parents couldn't take the stress of caring for such abnormal children anymore so they drugged the boys and hand them over to a mysterious organization ( I guess it was a research center of sorts?) to be cared for and watched over.

After causing a scene at the facility out of anger, Naoto recalls his mother's words and realizes that he and his younger brother only have each so he vows to stay by Naoya's side and be his protector forever. Fast forward 15 years later, when the director of the places dies the invisible barrier surrounding the building disappears, so now Naoto and Naoya are free to escape and experience the "normal" world as adults.

It has a few examples scattered on the wiki, which is how I found it but no one made a page for it in all these years. So I am going to today.

[up] I've been meaning to dig into older anime lately, so I'll check that one out (if I can find it). [tup]

Otherwise, since I'm a fan of Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction I bought the latest Inio Asano anthology, which came out at the same time as DDDDD volume 8 here.

It has both some of the cutest and some of the most fucked up stories I've read. On one hand you have stuff like A Sweet Man, a pretty cool experiment where the exact same story is told three times (and I mean that the author reused the exact same pages) − the first time without any inner thoughts, the second time with the thoughts of the girl and the third time with the thoughts of the boy; it's not only gorgeously drawn but also adorable. On the other hand you have stuff like Tempest, where Japan counters population aging by… shuting old people into special centers and "educating" them (and everyone else) to drill into their minds that they're a useless burden to society and that it'd be better if they kindly comitted suicide. Also, girls as young as 14 are encouraged to get married and have children.

Then there's Retsuko the Monster, which is both. A highschool girl with a Nightmare Face is called "super cute" and treated kindly by her whole class except the class rep who calls bullshit on it. Like some weird reverse bullying.

All in all, while some stories are less impactful and others outright confusing, I'm simply blown away by Inio's sheer versatility in this.

(I love this manga).

I recently found this old series, Dad, the Beard Gorilla and I, and it's quickly becoming my favorite Slice of Life manga.

What can I say? It's funny, heartwarming, but surprisingly deep and insightful. The manga does an excellent job in naturally expanding and developing the cast, and the obvious growth the characters and their relationships go through prevents the story from becoming stale.

I like reading Slice of Life, but usually stops after a couple of chapters or so, because they rarely go beyond "main characters do random stuffs", and even some who do try to add new characters or gimmicks don't always develop the existing cast in any meaningful ways.

Love After World Domination doesn't have a huge amount of substance - and only six chapters so far.

But it is very cute.

I'm hoping it builds up to something more given the end to the most recent chapter.
