  • Black Doom: I need to hostile terraform Earth so I can feed the Black Arms
  • Also Black Doom: I've been visiting Earth for at least 2000 years and the Black Arms haven't starved to death

See Black Doom, this is why you don't get to appear after Shadow the Hedgehog while Dr Eggman gets multiple moments of being a Magnificent Bastard, with his malevolent yet magnificent mustache

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I loved Knuckles in Sonic Boom. And yeah, I mean it. I liked his design, personality, dynamic with the cast and Travis Willingham voicing him.

I hated Knuckles' personality in Boom the Game, though he was tolerable in Boom Season 1, and rather liked him in Boom Season 2.

Season 2 made him kind of Ron Stoppable-esque: supposedly dumb but surprisingly witty and meta.

[up]I was talking about the cartoon one. Never played those games (and I wasn't even aware of them until I read about them; guess I was lucky I didn't played the first two Sonic Boom games - and I'm sorry for the crew behind them, because I've heard they faced so many problems). But you couldn't say it better, now that I think of it (I will watch Kim Possible as soon as I could).

"

Why peole never talk about the series, is really so bad?.

The Sonic Boom games were pretty bad. The Sonic Boom cartoon has had mixed reception but is generally seen as improving in season 2.

[up]I enjoyed it from the beginning!

And nobody cares to mention that Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice was considered a vast improvement from Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, but ultimately it's So Okay, It's Average.

And about about Sonic X? I have heard a lot of negative reaction to it.

Sonic X mainly gets negativity for Chris. Cosmo lesser so but I always thought people treated her unfairly.

Sonic X is pretty mediocre overall even without Chris.

Subpar and limited animation, and the cast range from tolerable to extremely boring.

I loved it as a child cuz I needed my fix of Sonic, but it's not something I'd go back and watch again either.

I can see that. It did have some interesting ideas that were kind of wasted in hindsight.

Cosmo was fine. Her death was the best scene in the entire show in the sub. The dub butchered it, though.

Sonic X's reaction depends on your age. Got into the series after being a teen/a fan in the 1990s? Mixed. Got into it around the Dreamcast/third party era? Positive.

X is my favorite animated adaptation, but I don't think the first season is necessary. It has the minimum to do with Sonic but isn't entertaining like Boom is. Just skip to the Adventure 2 arc.

The SATAM adaptation was my favourite, even though it's a continuity almost entirely divorced from the main games canon. They had some phenomenal voice acting for its time.

I like SATAM, X, and Boom all to an extent. I just like X the least in hindsight.

Well, nobody cares if I say my opinion about the Sonic animated series. But here I go anyway...

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. My favorite of the DIC Entertainment cartoons centered on the Blue Blur. It was ridiculous, and I loved it! Dr. Robotnik always stole the show! Every single second! Along with Scratch and Grounder (and Coconuts). And it was adorable that Sonic and Tails are like brothers here. And it's a really great goldmine for memes and You Tube Poop.

Sonic SatAM was great in its own right. Jim Cummings shined as everyone's favorite, Dr. Julian Robotnik. Kinda wish that Antoine should have been crafted differently and Tails should have been closer with Sonic, like brothers.

Sonic Underground was pretty interesting. Too bad that it hasn't reached its resolution. I've enjoyed the songs, too. Sleet and Dingo were enjoyable, too. Gary Chalk was alright as Dr. Robotnik. Not memorable like Mike Pollock or Long John Baldry.

I liked Sonic X (and I dare to say that I tolerated Chris Thorndyke). The dub is what I've watched (if I watch in Japanese with subs I've wasted my life, but I'm not ruling it out, however), and it's not bad. Also, Mike Pollock, I mean, Dr. Eggman is born.

And last, but not least, Sonic Boom is my favorite. It's funny and very meta. And I enjoy the dynamic between the characters. The modern cast at its best! And Mike Pollock is back too once again as Dr. Eggman!

Classament:

  1. Sonic Boom
  2. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
  3. Sonic SatAM
  4. Sonic X
  5. Sonic Underground

Go on, go ahead! Share your opinion, too!

One question, though, that I never understood: Why people are mad that our favorite mad scientist is called Dr. Eggman and not Dr. Robotnik? Can you please answer that to me?

I liked Scratch and Grounder more than I did Bocoe and Decoe from Sonic X. AOTSH was such a typical Saturday Morning Cartoon it made the "bumbling henchmen" concept tolerable - because everybody in that show was a bit of a goof.

Boom has gotten the most laughs out of me. It was an unexpected gem.

...

Eggman is a weird name to call yourself when you want to be taken seriously. It sounds great as a taunt from Sonic and others. It made sense when Eggman was portly and most of his devices had an "egg" theme to them.

But when we started getting to things like "Egg Beetle monster" and "Egg Dragoon" and Eggman himself didn't even look all that round and egg-like it started to feel like an Artifact Title. Even 2006 referred to him as "Eggman" and he looked nothing of the sort. Boom calls him that and he's barrel-chested.

I prefer "Robotnik" because it sounds like a creepy, mad scientist name. He's a mad doctor who builds robots. Makes sense, aye?

The comics had the SATAM Robotnik actually be "Robotnik" while the "game" Eggman was actually from another dimension, so that was a nice compromise.

Though my headcanon from the comics is that he used to be Ivo Robotnik and, as he slowly went insane and diabolical, started calling himself "Eggman." Because if people were going to make fun of him then he was going to make a name as ridiculous as "Eggman" something that people were terrified. Just like how "Batman" sounds ridiculous until a tall, imposing, caped figure is beating the tar out of you in an alley.

My reasoning for liking Robotnik as his actual name is that has strong East European associations and ties his backstory together with Adventure 2, giving him a motive and a reason for his desire to conquer.

I just like that Cold War feel this adds to his personal history (Grandfather was a disgraced defectee from across the Iron Curtain, got his doctorates out of spite for GUN and admiration of Gerald's brilliance, spent decades plotting revenge on the corrupt officials that doomed his gramps), even if it is overshadowed by his constant struggles with Sonic in the present.

[up](x6) I meant generally. Most X fans are those who got into the series post-Adventure, while I've seldom seen a Genesis-era fan who likes the series as much.

I wonder what Boom's reaction will be once Boom-era kids are old enough to join fandom spaces.

[up] I hate "Robotnik" as Eggman's title, but I love it as his actual name. I do find it fascinating that "Ivo Robotnik" is a real name as well. It's Eastern European and I think that fits Eggman's character well. The series will never go into depth on that, but it's interesting Fanfic Fuel. I've heard that the Japanese version still treats him as his first name is unknown, but I can't find a source on that.

For example...

This dark, 30-minute fictional biography on Robotnik. I thought it'd be a joke, but it's an attempt at a real world-styled backstory where Sonic is just a rebellious jerk and Eggman is heroic.

[up]That biography is brilliant, but it fails to fully bring out the significance of Robotnik's family being basically defectees from across the Iron Curtain.

Yeah...I think he is.

It's pretty cool.

Some people looked at Boom Eggman as an...upside Down Egg and I guess that makes sense.

It's not an immediate thought though, nor does having regular arm size really help draw that out.
