YMMV / Trick & Treat

Go To

  • Angst Dissonance: Richard's entire existence revolves around him being miserable. This is played for laughs, especially by the 4koma.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The Witches' Tea Party reveals that it's not the first time Charlotte deals with a human turned monster who had a broken heart and became a Death Seeker....
  • Fridge Horror: In the official 4koma, Marilyn says that she's been looking for possible suitors for Charlotte for decades. How many cursed humans are around the world? At least Richard doesn't have to worry about being alone...
  • Narm: Richard's constant crying (especially at The Reveal of his Freudian Excuse) is unfortunately a bit spoiled by the flat character portrait and his overused Ocular Gushers.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Has its own page now.
  • One True Threesome: Apparently the author ships Charlotte/Amelia and Charlotte/Richard. To the extent that the True Ending actually has two variations with both pairings.
  • Strangled by the Red String: The True Ending reveals that there's a Will They or Won't They? for Charlotte/Richard. But the whole thing happens too fast and very awkwardly. Basically, they've had at least five minutes of interaction in different scenarios and they're mostly hostile, until Richard reveals that he became a vampire indirectly because of Charlotte and she befriends him out of guilt.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: There are a handful of fans who were disappointed that the story was too short and the characters were not developed enough (with most information being revealed in the True Ending and the Bonus Room).
  • The Woobie: Richard has gone through a lot prior and after becoming a vampire. All endings feature him suffering one way or another. In the Bad Ending he's presumably killed offscreen by Charlotte, in the Normal Ending he's condemned to be lonely at his mansion forever (with the exception of John) and in the True Ending he finds out that the witch who cursed him is the grandmother of the girl who rejected him 70 years ago. He cannot take a break even in the Bonus Room, revealing that he has a thing for Charlotte, but he also resents her because she's a witch and indirectly responsible for his current state. Born Unlucky indeed...
