YMMV / Rick Ross

Go To

  • Awesome Music: "Idols Become Rivals", a brutal Take That! towards Cash Money founder Birdman, with Ross expressing his disapproval of the latter's shady business practices and poor treatment of his own artists.
    • "Purple Lamborghini", Rick Ross' collaboration with Skrillex, is a perfect blend of Dubstep beats, Trap Music flow, and nerdy lyrics that all come together to solidify Rick Ross' status is The Large Ham of modern hip-hop.
    • "Three Kings", with Dr. Dre and Jay-Z, is a tasteful yet fun celebration of the three emcees' lives and careers in music.
    • For straight-up Gangsta Rap fans, "BMF" and "Hustlin'" (especially the remix featuring Jay-Z and Young Jeezy) are pretty great Type 3, while Ross' lesser-known "The Boss" with T-Pain is a great Type 4.
    • Rick Ross' guest verse on Kanye West's "Devil in a New Dress" is often seen as a highlight in an already much-loved album thanks to Ross' solid delivery and creative lyrics.
    • "I'm Not a Star", which served as the basis for Lil Wayne's "John", and for damned good reason. From the same album, "MC Hammer" and "No. 1" are also pretty underrated.
  • Growing the Beard: Despite facing blowback for it at the time, most people agree that his rhyming ability improved a fair bit after he was discovered to be a former correctional officer.
  • Narm: In the music video for "Speedin'", where Rick Ross jumps off a bridge in order to avoid a speeding ticket.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: Rocko's hit song "U.O.E.N.O." is probably better known for a line from Ross that was believed to condone Date Rape ("Put molly all in her champagne/She ain't even know it/I took her home and enjoyed that/she didn't even know it"). This caused Reebok to dump Ross as a spokesperson, the cancellation of a concert, and his lyric usually censored out of the song.
  • Signature Song: "Hustlin'", "B.M.F." and "Aston Martin Music" for most rap music fans, "Purple Lamborghini" in the public eye.
