YMMV / Postal 4: No Regerts

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: On Tuesday, the Dude ends up inhaling a lot of noxious drug fumes at one point, leading to him hallucinating that he is a literal cat. This event lasts for a few chores that ultimately ends with the Dude coming to. It's never brought up again.
  • Broken Base: Jon St. John's performance of the Dude. A good replacement or a poor attempt at bringing the Dude to life? Some argue against it saying the Dude sounds too happy and not as threatening as Rick Hunter's take. Died out to some extent after the game's official release gave players the option to pick the Dude's voice actor, so if they preferred Rick Hunter, they could just play with his voice instead.
  • Contested Sequel: There's a camp of players who've declared that the game is largely the "same, but more" compared to Postal 2, with jokes that encompass The New '10s and those who bemoan some missing details, glitches, and performance issues.
  • Critical Dissonance: Professional reviews have been largely negativenote , citing issues with performance and technical glitches, while player reviews are more mixed.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Why is the Postal Dude much more chill in this game? It’s because he no longer has to deal with the Bitch, and despite still being a Doom Magnet, he is much more happier without her.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • One of the emotes the Dude can perform is petting random dogs. Despite his usual actions, he can do a literal Pet the Dog moment and show his love for dogs.
    • The ending. Despite everything the Dude has gone through, he finally finds his trailer home courtesy of the Skeevy Motel Owner. Doubly so if the player goes through the game without killing anyone, where the Motel Owner gives the Dude his trailer home for free.
    • In a meta-sense. Despite previous scheduling conflicts, the game has all of the voice actors for the Dude in the same game for the player’s choice once it left early access, even including Zack Ward from the movie. Especially notable for Corey Cruise, as he finally gets to play as the Dude completely playable in a game that doesn’t suck. Note
  • Obvious Beta: Despite Running With Scissors making their mission to not repeat the mistakes made in Postal III, the launch of Postal 4 was rather poor, with the game being riddled with bugs even after having spent almost three years in Early Access, many which remain unpatched by early 2024. The silver lining is that RWS has remained commited to improving the game after launch, much like they did with Postal 2.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • Jon St. John becoming the voice of Postal Dude in Postal 4 hasn't been as well-received as Rick Hunter, generally considered his best voice actor.note  Common criticism is that his performance sounds a bit too much like his most famous role, and lacks the same energy and comedic timing of Rick. Although it has started to grow for certain fans (involving Civvie 11), and the full game gives the option to pick what voice you want for the Postal Dude, making Jon St. John an option rather than a replacement.
    • Some fans weren't happy that 4 switched the Dude's outfit for a purple bathrobe instead of his trenchcoat, but Running With Scissors were quick to clarify that his original outfit would return in the future, before properly implementing it with the Wednesday Update.
  • Unexpected Character: It's safe to say that nobody was expecting Rick Hunter to return for the game, especially after RWS themselves had said scheduling conflicts with his radio career prevented him from reprising his role as the Dude, and until 1.0, that was genuinely the case.
  • Win Back the Crowd: The announcement that Rick Hunter and Corey Cruise would be reprising their roles as voice-packs for the Postal Dude in the 1.0 release, winning fans over that weren't too fond of Jon St. John's performance or at least wanted to hear the other voice actors of the Dude. Fans were also won over with the announcement that Zack Ward was also added as a voice option in the future, complete with his outfit from the Postal movie.
