YMMV / PVRIS

Go To

  • The Ace: Lynn Gunn is one in a musical sense. She can sing really well, can play multiple instruments to a high standard and usually records and produces her own demos at home before taking them into a proper studio later.
  • Breakup Breakout: Pvris became much more successful than Operation Guillotine, the band 3 of Pvris's original members came from.
  • Broken Base:
    • Some fans haven't liked the band's move towards a more pop, hip-hop and RnB-influenced sound. This started as early as the release of White Noise, as some fans of the band's Post-Hardcore-style earlier work weren't a fan of the added electronics and poppier songwriting.
    • Lynn didn't perform very well during the touring cycle for All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell. She would often struggle with her vocals, and they would veer into Perishing Alt-Rock Voice territory quite a few times. This caused her to get a lot of criticism from some fans. She later revealed that she'd had psychological blocks that had affected her ability to sing. She's since recovered from them, and the fans have been very complimentary again about her vocals.
    • The decision by the band to have every member who isn't Lynn demoted to extras wasn't well-received by some fans.
  • Genre Savvy: It could be argued that the rest of the band being demoted to extras counts as this. They decided to not even hide that Lynn is essentially the band. It was actually a very smart choice, as Brian (the sole remaining other member) has been able to live a relatively quiet life these days without being harassed.
  • Hollywood New England: The band is from Lowell, Massachusetts, but the two remaining members of the band don't live there anymore. Lynn has lived in New York and Los Angeles since the band gained success, while Brian moved away from the US altogether and has lived in the UK and Sweden.
  • Lead Bassist: Lynn plays bass on all of the band's studio recordings, and is pretty good at it too!
  • Lead Drummer: Lynn has played drums during live performances with the band, and has also sometimes appeared on stage with other artists as a drummer. Oddly, she prefers not to play drums on the band's recordings.
  • Nobody Loves the Bassist: Averted with Brian. Even though he's taken a step away from the limelight in recent years, the fans still very much love him and he still has a very close relationship with Lynn.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Lynn and Brian. They've always had a very close relationship, and it isn't unusual to see them hugging or one of them glomping the other.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanour: Alex Babinski was fired after allegations of sexual harassment and coercing a minor were made against him.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Reportedly why Pvris left its major label deal with Warner to sign with smaller independent label Hopeless Records.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Lynn is either 5'7" or 5'8", depending on who you ask. If you believe her, it's the former. Whenever she stands next to anyone else, her height becomes very obvious. Part of the reason people often find Lynn very attractive is because she's on the taller side of things.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Brian and Lynn are a platonic example of this.
  • The Woobie: Lynn. She's been very open about her struggles with mental health and how people refused to embrace her sexuality in the early days of her being openly gay. Add the huge amount of break-up songs on Pvris's second and third albums to this, along with the vocal issues she had whilst touring that second album, and it's really hard to not feel extremely sorry for her.
    • "What's Wrong" is almost an Iron Woobie anthem. She's very frank and direct about how her life got pretty depressing in some ways following the band's breakout with White Noise, and she didn't need anyone to tell her how messed up everything was.
    • She went even further into iron woobie territory when she explained the meaning behind "Things Are Better".
"You know that whole thing of, ‘If you’re not suffering, you’re not doing it right?’ It’s such bullshit!"
