YMMV / Family Guy S 2 E 18 E Peterbus Unum

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Peter’s attempt to secede from the United States is very similar to the CHAZnote commune that temporarily took over a few blocks of Seattle during the 2020 George Floyd Protests.
    • Almost all of the dictators to appear at Peter’s pool party have long since passed away, some of them directly removed from power by the United States. They are: Slobodan Milošević, who died in 2006, Idi Amin, who died in 2003, Muammar Gaddafi, who was removed from power in 2011, Saddam Hussein, who was forcibly removed from power in the United States’s 2003 invasion of Iraq, Yasser Arafat, who died in 2004, Kim Jong-Il, who died in 2012 and was succeeded by his son Kim Jong-Un, Fidel Castro, who died of natural causes in 2016, and Ali Khamenei, who is still in power in Iran to this day.
    • One Cutaway Gag features Peter getting a new dog that looks like Brian, much to the former's disappointment. A later episode would have Peter get another dog for real under the assumption that Brian's getting old and will be gone soon, and the jealousy of this new dog drives Brian to move out of the house.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Certain cartoon fans will recognize Rob Renzetti, the director of this episode, as the creator of My Life as a Teenage Robot, or, more recently, as a supervising producer and story editor on Gravity Falls, and also My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Peter's pool party includes multiple dictators who were very prominent in the 1990s, including Slobodan Milošević, Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin, and Muammar al-Gaddafi. Even by the time Seth Macfarlane and co. recorded their DVD Commentary for the episode, Seth noted that not all of them are alive anymore (and presently, all of them are long since dead). note
