YMMV / Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad Island

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo:
    • The title of the episode "Sir Nut-a-Lot"... yeah. Thankfully, the Latin American Spanish dub changes the episode's title to the much less suggestive "Sir Cocolot".
    • A scene at the beginning of "No News is Good News" has Coconut Fred shoot a glue gun at Mr. Greenrind, which covers him in the glue and sticks him to the ground. A few jokes have been made about this scene looking wrong, with the glue being white and gooey.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: It's become pretty popular in certain online circles to instead interpret Fred as an omnipotent God of Evil with a sadistic sense of humor or as an insane Reality Warper trickster god. For some, it actually improves the show's entertainment value.
  • Bile Fascination: The only reason people watch this show is due to its perceived similarities to SpongeBob, which it is believed to be a rip-off of.
  • Cargo Ship: Wedgie and his ship's figurehead, "Betty".
  • Designated Hero: Take all of SpongeBob's negative traits and remove any of his positives and you end up with Fred. It's a little hard to enjoy his antics due to the virtually Chaotic Stupid nature of his mayhem. This isn't made much better by his Idiot Houdini nature.
  • Designated Villain: Mr. Greenrind just wanted some peace and quiet. He has all the right to hate Fred, especially considering Fred's Designated Hero status.
  • Fridge Horror: If a fruit were to be a living creature, it would be likely that their juice would be their blood. In No News is Good News, Fred acts as a life guard and attempts to perform CPR on Wedgie, squeezing a lot of lemon juice out of him and onto Mr. Greenrind's face. And in Nutcase, Mr. Greenrind is forced into a bowl of watermelon juice by a group of cannibals that enjoy eating watermelons like him.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The episode "Master of Disaster" had a dog with a helicopter on his back as a background character.
  • Signature Scene: One thing about this show that a lot of people remember is the video game references in "Sir Nut-a-Lot". Some people suggest watching the show because of those references and there are a few jokes and edits online.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: This show is better remembered for being a SpongeBob SquarePants knockoff. Rob Paulsen, who voiced the titular character, even agreed with those complaints.
