YMMV / Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Kaito's magic is referred to as "D magic." Yeah.
  • Angst? What Angst?: In the manga, Sakura doesn't seem particularly bothered that the Sakura Cards have gone clear and lost all their power. Compare to how upset she was when the Clow Cards were losing their magic in the second season of the original anime and this becomes very odd. This was fortunately corrected in the anime, where she updates Yue and Eriol about any new cards she has captured, and shows concern over the Sakura cards.
  • Broken Base: CLAMP revisiting CCS by releasing a sequel manga and a new anime series is considered to be great by many, in order to bring back those nostalgic feelings which could serve as a Career Resurrection for the authors. However, after the controversial endings and sequels of Tsubasa -RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE- and xxxHOLiC, many people are annoyed that the members of CLAMP are recklessly milking CCS, and would rather want them to continue their old and new works that had been put into a hiatus instead of risking screwing up yet another of their flagship series.
  • The Chris Carter Effect: At this point Clear Card has nearly reached the same length as the original CCS manga, which had two distinct and separate story arcs, and there still seems to be little forward progress in the plot or sign of a conclusion. Even worse for the anime, which overtook the manga after one short season back in 2018.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In the English dub, Touya and Yukito share voice actors with Katsuki Bakugou and Izuku Midoriya, respectively, from My Hero Academia. Bakugou and Midoriya are also a huge fandom coupling for their home series, if not the largest same-sex ship, because a good portion of their character arcs revolve around each other. Cue some Ho Yay jokes about how in another universe Bakugou and Midoriya have finally resolved their Belligerent Sexual Tension.
  • I Knew It!: It wasn't hard for many people to figure out Syaoran is drawing powers from the original Sakura Cards after seeing him use them several times, most noticeably when the wind magic he summons to capture the Blaze bears a striking resemblance to the Windy.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: The series gets a lot of flack for a perceived over-reliance on nostalgia for the original series while doing little to develop its own identity. The Clear Cards are seen as copies of the Clow Cards, except with less personality, and the series is chock full of Call Backs to the original series to the point of receiving Recycled Script accusations. It doesn't help that the series downplays the Magical Girl elements in favour of Slice of Life antics, making the series feel more stagnant to a lot of viewers.
  • The Un-Twist: Akiho is the girl in the cloak? Yuna has turned back time, so that the anime; ending and second movie are seemingly retconned, but still constantly acknowledged? Geez, whoever saw that coming? A far cry from the manga where Syaoran is revealed to be the person in the cloak, not Akiho.
