YMMV / Assist Me

Go To

  • Crack Pairing: Doom and X-23.
  • Growing the Beard: Both in the literal sense and from a production standpoint. When the series started, Max was clean-shaven whereas presently he sports a goatee. The production quality has also increased over time (most notable with elements like Doom's costume; in the older videos, Doom looks more like some dressed up as Doom with a quickly thrown together outfit. Now, he looks much cleaner and more like the character), with the Ultimate Assist Me series even getting help from Capcom itself.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One of the lines in the Rap Battle between Doom and Wesker has Wesker attacking the fact that he was in Top 8 at EVO 2011, while Doom wasn't. Cut to EVO 2012, and it's Doom that makes it to Top 8, while Wesker is notably absent.
    • One of Max's videos has one of Doom's (fake) taunts giving a Take That! to Roll. Months later, this happens.
    • The Assist Me version of Chris Redfield is an obnoxious fratboy dudebro, in contrast to his canonical no-nonsense personality. Several years later, Resident Evil 2 (Remake) had Chris leave behind a letter where he acts like an obnoxious fratboy dudebro, which Claire notices isn't like him at all (it's a Public Secret Message about how he's investigating Umbrella).
  • Ho Yay: Quite common in the Outtake videos. It's always Played for Laughs and never actually real.
  • I Am Not Shazam: Hiryu is often called Strider by a few characters and many players.
    • Averted in the past in Retro Assist Me, when Wesker as a cop calls him Hiryu.
  • Memetic Mutation: THE FINGER LASERS!!!! Quite possibly one of Dr. Doom's most famous quotes from this series. It has since become the Fan Nickname for the Photon Array.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Morrigan appears for all of 15 seconds in Retro Assist Me as a, er, assistant of Commando's. Some people will attest that the only reason they watched that video was to see her.
  • Pandering to the Base: The most probable reason why Dante and Morrigan make an appearance as official guests in the Final Season.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Assist Me can be this with its incredible cheesiness. Sometimes you laugh so much you forget the main part of the video is actually a character tutorial.
