YMMV / Angel Hare

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Despite being a non-canon character, created as a sort of in-joke amongst the fandom, fans have come to love Gibby, the younger brother of Gabby, just as much as the main cast. It had gotten to the point where Rachel made an official drawing of the character.
    • False Gabby, an alternate version of Gabby where she is a demonic being, is also quite popular amongst fans, even though she only appeared in a short where Satan from The Mandela Catalogue and Gabby swap roles.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • Fans of the series tend to also be fans of Sonic the Hedgehog, both of which star colorful anthropomorphic animals as their protagonists. Some even believe that the characters from the series would not be that out of place in the Sonic universe.
    • The series has also gained a following with fans of Chikn Nuggit, thanks in part to the fact that the series' creator had created fanart of Angel Hare.
  • Ho Yay: A common shipping within the fanbase is between Zag and Francis (often referred to as "Zagcis") due to their dynamics in the series' second season.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Angel Gabby, in truth the anomalous manifestation of the angel Gabriel, is the embodiment of both biblical kindness and harshness. Having disguised herself as a sentient animated children’s show host, Gabby extends emotional guidance to children, particularly those in dire situations. Having treated a young Jonah as her own child, she eventually came to the conclusion that his monstrously abusive father was beyond redemption, and carefully orchestrated a plan to dispose of him while ensuring Jonah had an alibi to avoid legal prosecution, before manipulating the weather in order to flood the municipal building of his town and destroy the public records, endangering several people for his safety. After discovering the internet, Gabby attempts to assist as many children as possible, only for its scale to overwhelm her, while ensuring the angel Zagzagel will be able to assist her before recovering with Jonah’s assistance to update her approach for modern technology.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "That's a lore question." note
  • Realism-Induced Horror: What both seasons cover and what sets it apart from most Analog Horror in focus as the supernatural element is sincerely benevolent against the main conflict of both; with the first season exploring parental abuse and suppressed trauma in the form of what Jonah's father did to him, and the second concerning the eldritch scale of the internet (and what it does to someone who tries to devote their time to reaching out to communicate through it without help) and self-doubt.
  • Unexpected Character: NOBODY expected the second angel to be Zagzagel.
