WMG / Angel Hare

Go To

Angel Gabby is Archangel Gabriel in disguise.
Which explains why they both share a name and have a "messenger" role (and no, this is not related to the Mandela Gabriel). Gabriel likely could've shapeshifted into a cute angel hare so that he wouldn't be so intimidating to young Jonah. For a child, it's most likely going to be less scary to meet a cartoon anthropomorphic winged lagomorph rather than what would look like a winged stranger.
  • Likewise, Angel Zag being Zagzagel fits: the angel of truth would make for a good detective, who would have motivation to search if Gabriel went missing.

The new angel hare's name is…
  • Angel Michael (likely nicknames are Mike or Mikey). He seems to have a more serious and apathetic personality compared to Angel Gabby and appeared in the three angel hares mural (seen in the second letters video) as the tallest out of the three which would suggest he’s the leader of the angel hares, much like Archangel Michael is the leader of the archangels.
Jossed. His name is Angel Zag, referencing Angel Zagzagel.

Angel Zag's form-humans-are-comfortable-with deliberately includes elements of hardboiled detectives.
Hence his chiselled face shape, his world-weary demeanor and his black-and-white-movie grey fur. This is because he's literally playing detective, trying to figure out where Gabby went. And, of course, note that the episodes of Season 2 are not Tapes, but Cases.
  • Angel Zag has shown himself to be behind the times (no big surprise - as the head of angelic messengers and guardians, he may not have worked in the field since he voiced that talking bush in God's name) - he thinks Wreath still airs the show and isn't aware that the show is being broadcast in a way other than via TV. So it's not unthinkable that 'hardboiled detective' is the best bit of cultural language he can think of for what he's doing - although luckily for him it's an enduring concept.
  • Supported by Case 3, in which Zag says 'bupkis', 'flick' and 'pally'.'
  • Confirmed - in Case 4, it turns out that he had his own animated assignment decades ago - the noirish cartoon Wylde Hare.

Francis is aware of the situation
At first, he was going along with the script like nothing was out of the ordinary, but at some point he seemed to realize what was happening. It possibly had to do with the third and final letters video, wherein one of the letters caused the cartoon to go haywire. As shown in the Easter episode, Francis keeps painting esoteric symbols, perhaps as a warning? And in the recent videos, he is trying to follow the script, albeit with Zag in the lead role. He does sound a bit more anxious than usual, perhaps now realizing that something is wrong with this picture...
  • Confirmed. It's gotten to the point where he's now able to travel to a different show entirely. Question remains, how exactly did he wind up like this, since he didn't seem self-aware when Gabby was around?
    • Francis comments in Case 6 that Jonah is different from how he remembers, indicating that Francis may have actually been self-aware the whole time, and simply chose to keep reciting his lines no matter what as long as Gabby was there.

Francis is a fallen angel seeking redemption
He's clearly scared of the angels - and, as seen in the first Gabby-less letters segment, when Gabriel and Francis first met (when Francis was at his lowest point and begged for help), she used the full power of her angelic voice. Francis also revealed that Gabriel believes that everyone deserves a second chance. According to Christianity, when you're human, either you're saved or you're not, so that rules out Francis being a human soul working on his redemption. So Francis may be a fallen angel who's currently working toward that goal via community service.
  • He seems to gain free will and realize something's up near the later parts of the series, and especially after Gabby's gone, perhaps that could be him gaining his angel status back and being able to interact with the fourth wall? Or he's just that scared of Gabby he only waits until she's gone to break character?

Angel Gabby ascended to a higher rank of angel.
In Case 3, Francis has a drawing of a "biblically accurate" angel hare with multiple eyes he saw from a vision that he drew on Easter (remember that the Easter Episode is where Gabby is last seen). This could reference the highest choir of angel, made up of the ranks of Seraphim, Cherubim, and Ophanim (Thrones). Maybe because Gabby succeeded in guiding Jonah, that she was promoted to a higher rank of angel, hence what the drawing implies.
  • Supported by Case 4, in which the rules of Wylde Hare - a noirish mystery cartoon in which all the clues to the episode's mystery are given - transform the mysterious drawing of a biblically accurate Gabby into a newspaper article about an actress hitting the big time.
  • Jossed, Gabby or her role haven't changed in the slightest, unless one were to take her having access to the Internet as an ascension.

...as a result of answering lots of prayers.
Related to the above, remember that this is being livestreamed. How big is the audience? Did that audience begin trying to talk to Gabby en masse, splitting her attention so much that she could no longer respond to Jonah? Zag only started responding to Jonah once he identified himself as the livestreamer; has Zag been steadfastly ignoring all the other screens belonging to the audience, and at first (from Case 1) was unsure who the broadcaster was until Jonah identified himself as such? If this is all correct, did helping lots of viewers change Gabby's rank or nature?
  • Confirmed, at least for her answering so many prayers at once. As Case 6 states, Gabby is wearing herself thin by trying to help an entire Internet of troubled kids instead of being limited to a single channel, and as such has seemingly had fragments of herself split apart multiple different streams. Jossed for her changing ranks.

Case 4 will see Jonah stream a live-action noir movie.
Angel Zag did ask for something with more depth - as in, a third dimension - and he'd finally be in his element. Francis may tag along - and if so, the role he plays may hint at his true nature. If he's a repentant fallen angel, for example, he may be depicted as a repentant bookie for the mob acting as an informant. (He's an actuary, after all - and an actuary is really just a particularly cautious bookkeeper. Also, noirish bookies stereotypically wear green visors - which are also stereotypically worn by another group he's a member of: poker players.)
  • Semi-Jossed - it's Zag's own celestial animated assignment from decades ago, the noirish cartoon Wylde Hare. And if Francis has a shady past, he's keeping his mouth shut about it wherever he goes.

Jonah's father is going to return as a Demon Hare
The series did establish that they existed, and along with the game revolving around a lack of demon hares, seems like too big of a Chekhov's Gun to not follow. My guess is that Jonah's father, after being sent to hell for abusing his son, would be given the opportunity by Satan (possibly taking the form of a hunter in the cartoon) to join his ranks and get even with Gabby. When he returns, he'll likely chastise Jonah over things like "Not taking it like a man", or "Not having the guts to kill me yourself".

Zag acted as Jonah's father's guardian during the original airing of Wylde Hare.
As a detective, Zag tried to teach Jonah's father to value truth and justice, but ultimately failed to get his lessons across. Jonah's father only ended up learning violence from the show, with tragic results. Regretting his failure, Zag world-hopped to Angel Hare in search of a way to redeem himself. This is why his lesson emphasizes respect and penitence rather than faith and hope, and also why Jonah has such an antipathy towards both Zag and his show when he first sees them- he's subconsciously reminded of his father. (The narration even emphasizes the "he" and "him" sometimes when mentioning Zag, similar to how "he" was highlighted in the first season.)
  • One bit of evidence against this theory is that in Case 5, Zag says he dislikes Gabby's approach to teaching lessons to kids, saying that "kids are smart" and can figure things out without handholding- if Zag had failed as a guardian before, he probably wouldn't have that opinion.

Angel Hare shares a universe with Amanda the Adventurer.
Both involve supernatural beings inhabiting children's cartoons, allowing them to interact directly with the audience instead of using Fake Interactivity. Perhaps Wreath of Life and Hameln are opposing forces allied with heaven and hell respectively, battling it out for the souls of children everywhere.

The third Angel Hare is…
In the second letters segment, we see a painting of three Angel Hares. The bottom one is Gabby, while the one at the top turns out to be Zag. However, we haven't gotten to see the angel hare in the middle of the painting yet.
  • Possible names could be…
    • Michael. Especially since the angel hare is dressed in blue, and Michael, Gabriel, and Zagzagel all made up a trio at one point.
    • Raphael.
    • Uriel.
    • Satanael.
    • Azrael.
  • Not only this, but the angel hare would likely have silver wings, as Gabby has gold wings and Zag has bronze ones.

Francis stuck to the script during season 1 as a way of cuing Gabby, rather than because he wasn't self-aware.
Tape 3 illustrates that Gabby keeps the show going as normal while adults are watching. It could be that Francis continues to recite his lines not because he literally can't do anything else, but as a means of helping Gabby keep track of what part of the show they're on at any given time, so that if an adult comes in, Gabby will be able to go right back to what she's scripted to be doing.

The third Angel Hare is Camael/Chamuel
One of the official trading cards depicts them as representing 'Patience and Justice' just as Gabby represents 'Faith and Hope' and Zag represents 'Respect and Penitence'. Camael/Chamuel is an angel of peace and divine justice who guards the innocent and gives strength to overcome difficult situations. Thus...

The third angel may be the one who got Gabby and Zag into protecting kids.
Before that, they were best known for pregnancy testing and minor acts of arson respectively.
