Go To

A surrealistic webcomic drawn by Steam Powered Giraffe members Isabella "Bunny" Bennett and Sam Luke, fleshing out and continuing the band's backstory laid out in the official timeline.

Tropes appearing in Steam Powered Giraffe: The Comic include:

  • Affectionate Nickname: "Petes" for Peter the Sixth.
  • Alliterative Name: Rooms in Walter Manor include among their number the Hall of Hamburgers, the Tower of Tacos (only open on Tuesdays), the Widow's Walk of Waffles (only open on Wednesdays), and the Lounge Room of Last Resorts.
  • Amazing Technicolor World: Peter the Sixth's dreamscape, as well as the part of Kazooland we see in "Hatchworth and the Blue Ghost."
  • Art Shift: The flashback to the Weekend War of 1897 is drawn by Sam, while the previous chapters were drawn by Bunny.
  • Black Comedy Cannibalism: Among apples with faces.
  • Continuity Nod: One of the portraits in Walter Manor's entry hall is of the one-tusked walrus from "Captain Albert Alexander," and another portrait is of the original four band members.
  • Medium Awareness: Sometimes.
Lorene Keaton: My name is Lorene Keaton. I'm looking for Peter Walter the Sixth. He's not going to be expecting me, but it is imperative that I speak with him.
Norman Becile: Hm. Yes. Imperative is a big word. Must be important, or you wouldn't have said it in bold text.
  • Monochrome Past: The Weekend War flashback sequence is mostly sepia-toned.
  • The Rival: Buster Becile to Peter Walter VI. In the backstory, Buster's ancestor Thaddeus Becile's squabbles with Peter Walter I sparked the robotic arms race that resulted in the Steam Powered Giraffe, the robots, and the Copper Elephant War, and his sons Ignatius and Norman similarly fought with Peter Walter II and Peter Walter III. After the accident that killed Peter Walter II and Guy Hottie, paralyzes Ignatius' right arm, and changes Norman, Norman pulled a Heel–Face Turn and became the Walters' housekeeper.
  • Surreal Humor
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: A staple of QWERTY's dialogue.
