This work provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: Downplayed with Cardin as while he did score a couple good hits in during him and Yang's fight with Neo, it was mainly due to his semblance boosting him (and Yang's being a ideal team up with him due to how it works)
  • Adaptation Expansion: Team CRDL is given much more depth and personalities than in canon. In particular, Dove admits Cardin is a bad leader due to letting anyone get a word in and wishes he was on another team.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Adam is shown to be based on fans idea pre volume 3 with him as Blakes mentor rather than ex lover, he also gives her a warning not to get in his way without trying to kill her before departing.
  • Adaptational Weapon Swap: In canon Hazel was a Bare-Fisted Monk. In the series intro he’s shown wielding a pair of Power Fists.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Before the final match of the Vyteal Festival, Pyrrha took a moment to confess her feelings for Jaune and he reciprocated.
  • Composite Character: Alyx's family consists of both her and Lewis and the Huntsman's children.
  • Copycat Mockery: Sky gives one while demonstrating his semblance to Blake, giving unflattering imitations of Team RWBY.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Cardin wanted to evac without Blake, most of his team were appalled at the idea, with Sky telling him that's messed up because in his own words "She pulled her weight".
  • Eyes Always Shut: When Ruby asks Dove why he does this, he explains it's how his semblance works.
  • Fantastic Racism: The group known as Natural Order is an infamous group that targets Faunus and is one of the reasons for the White Fangs existence.
  • Foil: In semblance terms, Cardin's is similiar to Nora's in that both are element based power boosters. While Nora's requires her to be electrocuted and she feels pain for a few seconds before it kicks in, Cardin's simply increases his strength base on how hot he is.
  • Hammerspace: Roman's newly discovered semblance acts as one of these, allowing him to store and pull objects out of thin air.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Yang still loses in the finals of Vyteal festival, only this time it's from a fair match.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Sky's impersonation of Yang has him saying "I'm the Yang, let's fight!"
    • Roman gives his "Lie, steal, cheat, and survive!" speech to Khaki when he betrays him.
  • Not So Above It All: Blake admits to Sky his impression of Weiss was pretty accurate.
  • Not Worth Killing: Adam deemed the Natural Order members he incapacitated to not be worth spilling blood, finding their fear more satisfying.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • The main hook of the series is that Cinder and her team were exposed as the culprits of the Breach thanks to Pietro. While they escape capture, their fugitive status means they're unable to enact their plans on the Vyteal Festival which lead to Beacon's Downfall.
    • Due to the mess with Cinder, Pietro has Penny sent to attend Beacon with a new team as long as she repeated her first year.
  • Super-Senses: Dove's semblance grants him enhanced senses and awareness while his eyes are closed.
  • Team Member in the Adaptation: Penny's new Beacon team is called Team OPAL, consisting of her, Oscar, Ilia, and Alyx.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: During the factory investigation, Yang gets stuck with Cardin, and they're pretty much dysfunctional.
  • Tempting Fate: For their first mission as upperclassmen, Ruby decides to take one tracking down the fugitive Roman, but it states that two teams will be working this, to Weiss and Blake's concern. Ruby asks what's the worst they can get. Cue them being stuck with Team CRDL.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Sometime after his escape, Roman finally discovered his semblance.
  • Voice Changeling: Sky's semblance allows him to impersonate other people's voices.
