The Askosverse (2019-present) is a Pokémon Alternate Universe Fic created by Jaydreamer, published in both writing and video format. It follows a set of original characters within the Pokémon universe, focused around three new fan-regions - "Askos" (The Place), "Fritho", and "Delwis". Each location has a brand-new set of characters, Fakemon, and stories that all link back in to each other, forming a cohesive narrative.
The Askosverse is mainly enjoyed on YouTube, but also has supplemental content published on AO3.
Works in the Askosverse series:
- Project Askos (2019)
- Pokémon Petunia (2020)
- Askosverse Fic Collection (2021-present)
- Askosverse Shorts (2021-2022)
- Project Pandora (2022)
- Jaydreamer's OC Snippets (2022-present)
- Pokemon Lavender (2023)
- Pokemon Edelweiss (TBA)
The Askosverse contains examples of:
- Aerith and Bob: For example, there's Decibel...and then there's Craig.
- Apathetic Citizens: No matter what threat appears, the regular people of the world ignore it.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Happens in both an in-universe sense and in the meta sense.
- Cast Full of Gay: Most of the cast are not straight.
- Creator's Show Within a Show: Jaydreamer references several of their other projects with cameos. Such as:
- Raywood Academy referenced with several background characters
- Crystal Desires, which is an in-universe show.
- Duels Decide Everything: Subverted due to Pandora, which contains zero Pokémon battles.
- Heel–Face Turn: This happens to most of the villains in the series.
- Internal Homage:
- Lavender is a remake of Askos, so many things from the original are straight-up copy and pasted.
- To a lesser extent, Petunia also does this a few times.
- Offscreen Afterlife: Souls exist, but there's no canonized afterlife. Heaven and Hell are hinted at, but never explicitly referenced in-universe.
- Official Couple:
- Larsa x Coral
- Trajan x Decibel
- Elara x Hayley
- Nina x Peter
- Basil x Clover
- Wyatt x Colton
- One Degree of Separation; Almost every important character is related to another, whether through them literally being related or through them just being friends.
- Our Souls Are Different: Most humans have a soul that persists after death - said souls are what allows someone to be brought back to life.
- Related to this, people without souls can exist, and are pretty much emotionless because of their lack of soul.
- Prequel: Petunia is this to Askos/Lavender.
- Side-Story Bonus Art:
- Sincerest Form of Flattery: The idea for the Askosverse was inspired by other people who did similiar conceptsnote - namely, Mr Buddy and the Buddyverse, and Lockstin's Lockemon.
- The Multiverse: In Pokemon, the multiverse is already canon. The Askosverse is just one universe amongst many others.
- The Rival:
- In Askos, this is Larsa.
- In Petunia, this is Nina and Peter.
- In Lavender, this is Larsa plus the addition of Hayley.
- In Edelweiss, this is Audrey and Isaac.
- The Stinger: A vast majority of the main entries contain a post-credits scene. Most of the time, it's a teaser for Project Pandora.
- What If?: The entire premise of the AU is this, asking "What If [insert country here] was a Pokemon region?"
- Written by the Winners: Happens several times, all in different contexts:
- In Lavender, the existence of the region before Amurg, Zori, was made to be forgotten by the tyrannical King Blake note
- In Petunia, the entire region has a Suppressed History related to them being colonized by the Delwis region.
