Starscream is the leader of the group that Megatron will transform into the Decepticons
He is on a throne with Soundwave and Shockwave at his side. It will turn out that originally Megatron will end up joining him and becoming Starscream’s Starscream. Starscream’s efforts when the war begins will be him wanting to reclaim what was his.
The movie will end with a flash forward to the war.
I mean, it's a given.
What will cause Orion and D-16 to become enemies
As is stated in the synopsis, eventually the two will become enemies somehow, likely at the climax of the film. My guess is that it'll have to do with how they should deal with the Quintessons. Orion believes that they should just convince the Quintessons to leave Cybertron alone, but D-16 thinks they should be killed. This conflict will serve as the final battle of the film, which will end with the pair becoming Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively as they lead the Autobots and Decepticons to war with each other.
The Quintessons are responsible for the loss of transformation cogs in the Cybertronian populace.
As part of the subjugation of Cybertron, the Quintessons decreed that all T-Cogs to be removed from both new and old Cybertronians. This was a means to better control the populace. As shown in the trailer, T-Cogs are also responsible for onboard weaponry, so it would only make sense for them to strip that ability.
  • This would explain why they have noticable holes in their chests which are gone once they have their T-Cogs.
  • Quintessons have remained under the radar by designating a caste of "slave catcher" Cybertronians, known only by the dreaded name of Autobots.
There's a scorched-earth event that strips all of the organic elements from the surface
It's basically to bring Cybertron closer to its canonical appearance, while also serving as the catalyst for the strained relationship between Optimus and Megatron.
Steve Buscemi's character is...
  • Wreck-Gar, with the twist that he's a resident of Cybertron from the "before times", acting as Mr. Exposition
  • Starscream, who seems like the kind of slimy character Buscemi would voice
Other unannounced cameos
  • Jordan Peele as Cliffjumper, who falls prey to Sacrificial Lion except it's played for laughs
  • Peter Cullen and Frank Welker.
    • Perhaps after Orion and D-16's inevitable falling out when they become Optimus and Megatron, we'll fast forward to the war for control of Cybertron, where they're hopefully voiced by Peter and Frank.
Starscream's group is La Résistance in this film
Basically, Starscream learned about that the Quintessons controlled Cybertron and the Cybertronian government were working with them. He gathered as many of his followers as he could and fled to the surface, becoming fugitives in the process. His group has been trying to overthrow the Quintessons but nothing has worked...until Orion and D-16 come along.
The moment that cements Megatron's Face–Heel Turn
He embraces the violence so much that he transforms into a gun.
Alpha Trion falls prey to Mentor Occupational Hazard
Yes, a literal Sacrificial Lion.
  • Newly-minted Decepticon leader Megatron demonstrates his Affably Evil habits by hearing out his new minions' ideas - one submitted by a small group of lime green laborers is named Project Devastator.
  • A flash-forward to Orion Pax, now known as Optimus Prime and sounding a bit more like Peter Cullen, telling the story to a group of young Autobots after they crash on Earth.
  • Megatron, still bitter from feeling his friends betrayed him, begins developing an elite squadron of empowered Decepticons to hunt down traitors: The Decepticon Justice Division.
Peter Cullen and Frank Welker will make cameos in the film
  • Who wouldn't want the old guard to make appearances in a prequel? I'm hoping, and I'm pretty sure we all are, Peter and Frank make cameos as Worker-Bots who offer some words of encouragement to Orion and D-16 in spite of their rough situation.
Much of the film will be shown as a flashback
The film will begin with a battle between the Autobots and Decepticons and flash back to the pre-war setting during a confrontation between Optimus and Megatron.
Sentinel Prime will be The Starscream to the Quintessons
The Quintesson in the trailer is stringing up Sentinel as a threat, angered that four worker bots are loose on the surface. Sentinel ostensibly works for them, keeping the majority of Cybertron's population imprisoned and laboring underground, but is secretly working on a way to get rid of them himself, possibly using one of the Artifacts of the Primes. Naturally, Starscream himself will be the Starscream to Sentinel, at least until Megatron takes the reins.
Elita One will be a worker involved with the Iacon 5000
Unlike the others, early marketing hasn't shown where Elita comes from or what her job is prior to escaping, and she's never shown before scenes set on the surface. Orion, D-16, and B-127 might meet her shortly before the race, and she'll help them escape during. It's possible that she dreams of being a racer, foreshadowing her motorcycle alt-mode.
Megatron's Face–Heel Turn doesn't happen just yet within the film's main events
Regardless if they're told in a flashback or if there's a sequel, the film could end with at least some of the foundations for D-16/Megatron(us) to start a political movement, with the others, maybe even himself, feeling a little weary and uncertain about their future. Though Orion might believe that even whatever happens between them, they may not last as enemies, either.
Peter Cullen will appear as the voice of Primus
In a scene pulled directly from The Transformers: Autocracy, Orion will fall into deep into the bowels of Cybertron, where Primus, the living planet Cybertron itself, will present him with the Matrix, transforming him into Optimus Prime. Peter Cullen will provide Primus' voice, symbolically passing the torch on to Hemsworth.
On Sentinel's Cybertron, dissidents are branded with the face of The Fallen
In one scene, D-16 seems to stumble on the face of a Prime that looks like the Decepticon symbol, presumably the face of his namesake, Megatronus Prime. Notably, he already bears the Decepticon symbol on his shoulder. Megatronus will have been the first of the Primes to try to resist the Quintessons, and upon learning this, D-16 will take a variation of his name and embrace the symbol as one of rebellion.
  • I'm starting to hope that if the Fallen appears in the film (be it either a hologram or flashback), Frank Welker provides the voice. What better irony for D-16's namesake to be voiced by his original actor.
The film will be rated PG-13
This film will not be a Paramount Animation production.
Well, just like how Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was one of Paramount's only fully-animated films without involvement from Paramount Animation. This might happen with this movie too.
