WMG / ThunderCats Roar

Go To

The show will be Adored by the Network at first, but won't become a long-term favorite and will end after one or two seasons
For all the keyboard-kvetching that surrounds Thundercats Roar, it's important to look at the show in context. It's presumably intended as a successor to Teen Titans Go! (which may be ending in the near future), and as a companion to Ben 10 (2016) and The Powerpuff Girls (2016).

However, while all three of those series were successful initially, only Teen Titans Go was able to maintain that success over the long term; Ben 10 2016 and Powerpuff Girls 2016 were both Screwed by the Network shortly after their first season (ironically, to make room for Teen Titans Go reruns and marathons). Why is that? Mostly because Teen Titans Go was the first show of its kind. By the time other similar reboots started to air, fans (both in the target audience and the Periphery Demographic) were able to see them for what they were. Furthermore, Thundercats is a less familiar brand to today's young children than either Ben 10 or The Powerpuff Girls, so unlike them this reboot doesn't have name recognition on its side either.

Cartoon Network will probably heavily hype Thundercats Roar for several months, but history is not on its side. I suspect that it will probably end up like the Ben 10 and Powerpuff Girls reboots, rather than becoming as successful as Teen Titans Go. It may even be the Genre-Killer for reboots of old properties on the network.

  • Confirmed.

Tygra and Vultureman will be the Butt Monkeys of their respective teams
They are the characters most abused in the intro (Tygra gets smushed under a rock) and the Entertainment Weekly poster (Lion-O uses Tygra's head as a foot stool and Wilykat bites into Vultureman's leg).

There'll be a musical number at some point
There's been a sharp rise in musical numbers in cartoons, with Cartoon Network properties being the main contributor.

The show actually will have its dark moments every now and then
Steven Universe, Adventure Time, and The Amazing World of Gumball all have their share of comedic and lighthearted moments, but were also known to edge into more serious territory now and then. Just because ThunderCats Roar is intended to be lighter in tone than the previous two cartoons doesn't mean that it'll always be silly and wacky, though given it's also very much similar to Teen Titans Go! as well, this could go either way. Only time will tell.

The show won't last long.
The ratings are not looking good, and are falling fast. It probably boils down to the show being in a less-than-ideal slot, and viewers being tired of Denser and Wackier shows.

The show will prove itself a "worthy successor"......
By being cancelled after a single season, twice as quickly as the show it had dunked on. People will then mock them for their pompous boasting.
  • Well, you were right about the one season thing at least.
