WMG / Paladins

Go To

Paladins is something of a Stealth Sequel to Smite.
Considering that Grover was originally from Smite as a mount for Sylvanus and occasionally makes references to his old master, this could mean that Paladins takes place some time after Smite. Perhaps when the lore comes out for Grover, we may learn how he set out on his own.
  • Jossed.

Drogoz is not a dragon, but a lizard man who believes he's a dragon.
This would explain his lack of wings and why he doesn't like being called a lizard.
  • Jossed.

Drogoz is a dragon, but lost his natural wings.
Another potential explanation. Now he uses a jetpack to fly again.
  • Jossed.

Crystals are the main energy source in the Realm.
Not only are many champions adorned with at least one crystal, they can be found on many structures throughout the maps. For example, ice-cutting machines in Frostbite Cavern, waterfall statues in Jaguar Falls, and the vault doors in payload maps appear to be powered by crystals attached to them. Furthermore, in the cinematic trailer, Bolt powers down after his crystal is dislodged from him and powers back on once he gets it back. This implies that crystals are a powerful resource and play a huge part in the lore of the game.
  • Semi-confirmed, semi-jossed. Crystals were intially the main energy source of the world, but were banned for being too dangerous for widespread use, thus only the Magistrate uses them prominently. Making crystals available to everyone in the Realm is the goal of the Resistance.

Viktor, Strix, Kinessa, Tyra, and Ash were all serving in the same unit.
It's been confirmed that Strix and Viktor are old war buddies and that Strix mentored Kinessa. Based off of certain voicelines, it's shown that Strix hasn't seen Tyra in a long time and that Tyra and Ash know Viktor and call him comrade. While this could just be them making fun of Viktor's Russian background, it could also be a sign of recognition for a former teammate. This video provides more insight into this theory.
  • With the lore out, we know that Viktor, Strix, Kinessa, Buck, and Tyra were part of an elite unit called the Sentinels.

Makoa is the ancient guardian of the seas
Makoa's title is the Ancient and he mentions that the seas and rivers look to him for protection. Apart from that, there wasn't much to go by until Talus was added and some of his card art depicts old statues and carvings of Makoa or at least one his species. Not only that, one of Talus' spawn lines has him amazed if Makoa is on his team.
  • Jossed. He is an ancient guardian, but of the ska'drin's home island, not the sea.

Red and brown are something akin to gang colors
Vivian's reveal trailer shows that she seemingly works with Buck and Tyra, all three of which wear red and brown prominently on their outfits
  • Buck has red on his sash, crystal and the symbol on his forehead while the brown is his shoulder/neck armor, pants and bracers.
  • Tyra wears red with her pants, some bits on her rifle and her makeup for the most part she wears brown
  • And Vivian's red is her jacket, bracers, shoulder pad and a streak of hair while the brown is her shoulder cape-thing, pants, boots and the vest she wears under her jacket. So it seems that red and brown (or at least red) is a sort of pseudo-uniform for their group, rebellion, terrorist cell and/or religion (Buck does seem to be a monk after all)
    • Jossed. Tyra and Buck served under the same military unit as Viktor and Strix, but none of them wear the same uniform. Vivian doesn't work for Viktor. Therefore it's unlikely that red and brown dictate some kind of affiliation.

Buck is a worshiper of Jenos
When Buck uses his ultimate, a scorpion constellation appears at top of the heads-up display. Jenos also happens to use the same constellation as part of his Void Grip ability. Jenos' backstory mentions having a small group of worshippers, so it's possible that Buck is one of them.

  • Confirmed. In fact, Buck was the one who witnessed Jenos' return to the Realm and had cosmic knowledge shared with him.

Khan is actually a normal-sized man piloting a Mini-Mecha suit of armor
He's so heavily armored, that not a single patch of skin is showing. Also, his head is small for his body but would look fine on a normal-sized body. To look more intimidating, Khan had massive, super-advanced power armor constructed and keeps this a closely guarded secret.

Seris is an Eldritch Abomination whose appearance is A Form You Are Comfortable With

Her backstory describes her as "a being from the Void" and makes her out as a force of fate. Combined with her eeriness, Seris may actually be an inhuman being who took the shape of a nubile woman to not frighten people.

  • Mostly confirmed. Seris was originally a normal woman named Abby who was sacrificed to the Abyss to satisfy its hunger. Instead of consuming her, the Abyss possessed her body in order to inhabit the Realm and further its plans.

Imani was sealed away during the Dragon's Call event

With all the commotion during the Dragon's Call event, it seems odd that Imani wouldn't be present on her home turf. That is unless she was sealed away and was freed after the event. With her status as the last warder, she was probably sealed away to preserve the warders' legacy and the aftermath of the Dragon's Call event pulled her back into action.

Karne and Valera will be future champions... and be the most OP characters in the game

As the leader of the Magistrate and Resistance respectively, these two need to stand out from the rest of their subordinates. Balancing isn't something that Hi-Rez really gives much thought about, so they will just make those two stay meta for ages like Cassie.

  • Partially jossed. The two have gone back and forth on whether or not they'll ever be made playable, coming extremely close at times, yet never quite reaching development.

There will be a new faction in the game: The worshippers of the Abyss

It is no coincidence that the Abyss destroys the village of Seris. Getting a single sacrifice every now and then is no longer enough for it. It wants everything. In the future, the Abyss will invade the Realm in full force, creating a Mêlée à Trois between itself, the Magistrate and Resistance. Old characters will defect to the Abyss and new characters will be made to populate it.

  • Jossed. The Abyss itself became a new faction.

Atlas is the future son of Lex

In this baby photo of Atlas, the man holding him bears a great resemblance to Lex. Atlas also wears a shawl similar to Lex's.

  • Confirmed, Lex and Atlas share a few lines as well as their accent being similar.
