Trivia / Who's the Boss?

Go To

  • The Danza: Tony Danza as Tony Micelli, this is the Trope Namer.
  • Dueling Works: The show originally aired opposite (and debuted on the same night as) NBC's The Cosby Show. After the latter became a ratings juggernaut, Who's the Boss moved to from Thursday to Tuesday nights, where it remained for most of the rest of its run.
  • Executive Meddling: The final season of the show only got greenlighted by ABC on the condition that they finally brought Angela and Tony together. Tony Danza was vehemently against it, as he felt it would turn the show into a generic family sitcom. Then ABC moved the show to Saturdays in an attempt to ride the success of the TGIF block with I Love Saturday Night; this didn't translate, and it's almost universally suspected that ABC actually moved it, Growing Pains and Perfect Strangers to Saturdays to clear them from the schedules ("Suicide" is the Transatlantic Equivalent term used by The BBC and ITV) as all three shows had been running since the mid-1980s.
  • Friendship on the Set: The cast got along pretty well, with Tony Danza and Judith Light remaining close friends after production ended. Furthermore, Light also expressed heartbreak and sympathy when costar Danny Pintauro, who played her son Jonathan, announced he was HIV-positive.
  • In Memoriam: The Season 1 episode "Requiem" is dedicated to Matty Iadanza, Tony Danza's father. The episode is about the in-show Tony revealing that he's still paying for his recently deceased father's apartment.
  • Referenced by...: MAD: "Boob's The Boss?," in which a social worker evaluates how fit "Toenail" is to look after the kids - and decides he's much better than "Angina" and her mother, and says they shouldn't be allowed near them!
  • Star-Making Role: For Alyssa Milano at least. Tony Danza was already known through Taxi, Judith Light through One Life to Live, and Katherine Helmond through Soap.
