Trivia / Unstoppable

  • California Doubling: Averted and played straight. The movie is set in Pennsylvania and filmed there as well as eastern Ohio and West Virginia. And some of it was filmed in upstate New York, too. Various place names they filmed in are used in the movie's graphics.
  • Production Posse: Tony Scott and Denzel Washington had previously worked together on Crimson Tide, Man on Fire, Déjà Vu (2006) and the remake of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.
  • While there are Real-Place Background spots in the movie where No Communities Were Harmed, they all have fake names to cover up their actual real-world locales. The only place in the movie that gets any semblance of realism is the mention of Horseshoe Curve (a railfan's wet dream in most cases) and the giant bridge / curve which is physically located in Bellaire, Ohio but in the movie gets a huge leap to Scranton, Pa (according to map, renamed to Stanton for the movie). The reason for the leap was made more clear in commentary for the movie reviews; apparently the director happened to be a railfan also and figured Scranton, Pa where the real life Railroad Museum Steam Town U.S.A. exists would be a perfect place to end it.
  • Referenced by...: Citation Needed did an episode on the incident the movie was based on, and they reference it several times throughout.
  • Swan Song: Tony Scott's final film as director before committing suicide in 2012 (his final film overall being Top Gun: Maverick, in which he did some pre-production work).
  • Throw It In!: When Will jumps to Triple 7 at the end, his legs hang from the train for a moment before he can pull himself up. During the first take, the stuntman misjudged the jump thanks to the wind and landed in the wrong place, resulting in his legs dangling. Tony Scott liked the effect and asked him to repeat it in subsequent takes.
