Trivia / The Santa Clauses

Go To

  • Author's Saving Throw: In a November 2022 interview, Tim Allen commented that one thing that bothered him from the original movie was how the elves never seemed upset about how the previous Santa vanished without warning, or what happened to the previous Mrs. Claus. The series writers explicitly worked with him to address that.
  • Channel Hop: While the film trilogy was produced by Walt Disney Pictures, this series is produced by 20th Television.note  Despite that, the Disney wordmark is placed in the show's title logo.
  • Character Outlives Actor:
    • Father Time is mentioned in the second season when Scott is visited by the other Legendary Figures, but he doesn't appear in person due to his actor, Peter Boyle, passing away in 2006.
    • Alan Arkin, who played Carol's father Bud in the third film, passed away in June 2023 when the second season was in production. Carol mentions her parents a few times, implying that they're still alive, but they never appear.
  • Hostility on the Set: Casey Wilson, who portrays Sara, had difficulty dealing with Tim Allen, stating on a podcast that he represents the "truly single worst experience I’ve ever had with a costar" due to him complaining about her stepping on his lines.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Casey Wilson replaces Melissa King as Sara (the little girl from the first film that gave Santa soy milk).
    • The 17th Santa was originally portrayed by Steve Lucescu in the first film. For The Santa Clauses, the character is instead played by Jim O'Heir.
    • Tracy Morgan replaces the late Jay Thomas as the Easter Bunny.
  • Real-Life Relative: Tim Allen's daughter Elizabeth Allen-Dick plays Scott and Carol's daughter Sandra.
  • Role Reprise:
    • Tim Allen, Elizabeth Mitchell, Eric Lloyd, and David Krumholtz return as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus and Toy Santa, Carol Newman/Mrs. Claus, Charlie Calvin, and Bernard the Elf respectively from the previous films—Krumholtz being the longest absentee after scheduling conflicts kept him from appearing on The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.
    • The trailer for season 2 reveals that the Council of Legendary Figures will be returning with Kevin Pollak and Michael Dorn reprising their roles as Cupid and the Sandman from the second and third movies
  • Sequel Gap: The series came out 16 years after the third film.
  • Sequel in Another Medium: The series serves as a continuation to the original The Santa Clause trilogy.
  • What Could Have Been: Elizabeth Allen-Dick was originally supposed to have a cameo role as one of the North Pole elves. The casting directors were so impressed by her audition that they convinced Tim Allen to let her read for Sandra and she was ultimately cast in that role.
  • You Sound Familiar: In the Canadian French dub, Befana the Christmas Witch is voiced by Élise Bertrand, who also voiced Laura Miller in all three movies.
