Trivia / Stand Still, Stay Silent

  • Admiring the Abomination: The Fandom. You know what the reaction to Nightmare Fuel-iffic page 340 was?
One comment: I so want to have this as my wallpaper.
    Another comment: Seconded.
  • Colbert Bump: The comic being mentioned by name in the Overly Sarcastic Productions video about post apocalypses resulted in quite a few new readers.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: While articles talking about the comic itself tend to be accurate, this tends to frequently happen with the breakaway that the language tree from page 196 has become. Reposters frequently fail to either realize or mention that the tree was never intended to cover all world languages and/or the reason only the Indo-European and Uralic language families are shown (it's to show how Nordic languages are related to each other and other existing languages). The lower half, that is only accurate within the comic's universe, gets hit even harder with lack of context than the top one if it's included at all.

  • Fan Community Nickname: Minnions, a Portmanteau of Minna (as in author of webcomic) and... well, minions.
  • Fan Nickname: Fans of the webcomic have come up with names for many of the characters who weren't named in the story world at the time.
    • Braidy: The man on the title page with the big red braid. His real name is Reynir Árnason.
    • Captain Lady: The woman with the cropped red hair. Her real name is Sigrun Eide.
    • Medic: The man with the needle. His real name is Mikkel Madsen.
    • Derp Kitty: The cat on the cover and the latest addition to the team. Real name unspecified as yet. Also: "the purrito", for when she's towel-wrapped and cute with it.
    • Unflappable Train Lady and Unflappable Train Guy: Crewmembers of the Dalahästen. The woman's name was later revealed to be Agneta.
    • Hippo Shrimp: This fellow.
    • Miss Hearty Undead: The lovely woman that Emil punches in the face on page 170.
    • The Cat-tank, Cattank or Catmobile.
    • Handsy Moose: The creature that attacked Lalli in the dream world - the name references Hiisi Moose, a Monster of the Week from Minna's previous webcomic.

    • Mama Cat. Because she is a Mama Bear in feline shape.
    • And, we have the infected wolfhound most often nicknamed Cthulhund or Spiderdog with the possible Good Doggy persona locked inside that nightmare horror.
    • Sleipnope for the tentacle horse ghost thing leading the pursuit of our heroes, and its many, many friends are the murderghosts.
    • Reynir's mohawk-sporting brother was generally referred to as "Punkbruddir" until the family tree revealed his real name is Bjarni.
    • Notoro: The name for this weird vaguely adorable troll which Emil and Lalli encounter here
    • Sentinel mage Väinö Väänänen went unnamed for the first few pages of his appearance, and so was promptly nicknamed 'Seagull Santa'.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • With Shotgun Shuffle, due to a Worthy Opponent scenario in the finals of the 2014 Top Web Comic vote.
    • A one-way case has developed with Scandinavia and the World, due to the webcomic being a Nordic-centered version of Axis Powers Hetalia and hence one of the less boring ways of getting a crash-course on those countries for readers who came to Stand Still, Stay Silent without knowing much of them beforehand.

  • God Never Said That: The Rant after Tuuri's death revealed a case of this. Word of God that was either misinterpreted or misremembered caused people to be convinced that the event in question was not going to happen. Minna admitted to have noticed that piece of Fanon a while ago, but of course couldn't correct it without giving one of the biggest plot twists of the story away.
  • I Knew It!:
    • Writing romance fics between mages and non-mages resulted in fans speculating about non-mages having their own safe areas in the dreamscape long before it got confirmed in Chapter 17.
    • At least one commenter called Lalli's stay in Emil's dreamscape safe area resulting in Sharing a Body with him.

  • Memetic Mutation:
  • Outdated by Canon:
    • The family tree was published almost three years into the comic's existence. In the meantime, fanfic writers had come up with their own idea of the exact number of generations there had been between the Distant Prologue and the present timeframe and names for both seen and unseen family members of the main cast. The canon tree tossed many of those out the window.
    • The God Never Said That situation above resulted in fanfics depicting the time after the first expedition assuming that the entire main cast would survive Adventure I. The actual Adventure I ended with the crew "short a person".

  • Shout-Out:
    • The Västerström children are named after characters from the Sune-series, a collection of children's books with some popularity. If they ever get a younger sibling, expect her to be named Isabelle.
  • Shrug of God: Happens a lot, between the fact that the comic is intended to be a long runner and Minna doesn't mind Fanon taking over for things about which she has yet to make any clear decision.
  • Throw It In!: Tuuri being a much more minor player in Adventure II resulted in her being the only major character from Adventure I (excluding Kitty) not getting their birthday mentioned in the Adventure II version of the official character profiles. When asked, Minna gave a date, forgetting that she had already picked it to be Reynir's birthday. After it was pointed out, she decided to keep it anyway.
  • The Wiki Rule: There's SSSS Wikia.
  • Word of God: The author has a tendency to answer reader's questions in the comments at the bottom of the comic such as that Lalli is "pretty much" named after the character from Finnish history.
