Trivia / Pinocchio (2022, Disney)

Go To

  • Acting for Two: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Fabiana and Sabina were both voiced by Ximena González.
  • California Doubling: Zigzagged; while some scenes were shot in Tuscany, Italy, a lot of the movie was shot in studios in England.
  • Dueling Movies: With Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. Both are retellings/adaptations of Pinocchio on rival streaming services (Disney's on Disney+, Del Toro's on Netflix) that came out within months of each other. Both adaptations also make very similar departures from the original story, including Geppetto having a lost son whose soul is implied to be involved in Pinocchio's creation, Pinocchio getting ostracized for being a puppet, and Pinocchio remaining a puppet at the end, becoming a "real boy" only metaphorically.
  • The Other Marty: In the French dub of the first trailer, Tom Hanks was voiced by his regular voice actor, Jean-Philippe Puymartin. In the final film, he was replaced by Canadian voice actor Tristan Harvey.
  • Production Posse: Several of the people involved in this film are frequent collaborators of Robert Zemeckis, including Tom Hanks and Alan Silvestri.
  • Real-Life Relative: In the French dub, Pinocchio is voiced by Simon Faliu, while Signore Rizzi is voiced by Serge Faliu, Simon's father.
  • Role Reprise: In the French dub, Simon Faliu reprises his role as Pinocchio from the 2019 Italian film.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Sam Mendes was the first director to enter talks for the project before bowing out, after which Paul King came aboard to direct before departing the project himself in 2019, leading to the hiring of Robert Zemeckis.
    • Oakes Fegley was initially in talks to play Lampwick before Lewin Lloyd was cast.
    • The film was originally meant to be a theatrical release, but the box office failure of Dumbo and the COVID-19 Pandemic would cause Disney to move it to Disney+ instead.
