Trivia / Marie-Antoinette (2022)

Go To

  • Ability over Appearance: Louis Cunningham bears little resemblance to Louise-Auguste, but captures his painful shyness and awkwardness perfectly.
  • Creator-Driven Successor: The producers (Canal+ / StudioCanal) are the same as Versailles, and the series is set at the same place and starts nearly a century later, though the showrunner is a different one.
  • The Danza: Louis Cunningham (Lord Corning in Bridgerton) as the Dauphin Louis. Cunningham is actually a descendant of Louis XIV, amusingly enough.
  • Dawson Casting: Emilia Schüle, who was 29 when the series was filmed, as 14 year old Marie-Antoinette at the start of the series.
  • Fake Nationality:
    • Almost nobody playing a French character is actually French, including the English James Purefoy as King Louis XV. The only exception is the French Gaia Weiss as Madame du Barry.
    • The German Emilia Schüle was born in Russia from an ethnic German family, so it kind of fits with the Holy Roman Empire (Germany as we know it wasn't formed yet), though if one goes into details with the empire's subdivisions, Marie Antoinette was technically Austrian.
    • Similarly, the Swiss Marthe Keller as the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa (Marie Antoinette's mother).
