Trivia / Esme & Roy

Go To

  • Denial of Digital Distribution: Was removed from HBO Max in August 2022, despite being an HBO original.
  • Dueling Works: With Abby Hatcher, another Canadian show with a similar premise. The flack over the speech of the non-human characters in that show compared to this show's unanimous praise caused Esme and Roy to be the more popular show.
  • Edited for Syndication: Like PJ Masks, the show's theme song was mysteriously trimmed on some airings for Tiny Pop.
  • He Also Did: Executive producer for Sesame Workshop Kay Wilson Stallings was once SVP of Development and Production at Nick Jr., developing more than 20 series, like Wonder Pets!, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!, and Shimmer and Shine. On another note, Mike Nawrocki, writer of the episode "Sound Reasoning," is best known as having co-created VeggieTales.
  • International Co Production: Co-produced by Nelvana (Canada) and Sesame Workshop (United States).
  • Screwed by the Network: The show was supposed to premiere nationwide on both the PBS Kids block and channel, with both channels having daily reruns. However, it actually wound up only airing on weekends on the digital channel. It would then get pulled from PBS Kids a year and a half after premiering. In August 2022, the series was pulled from HBO Max.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, this concept art had Roy colored blue (look familiar?) and Esme becoming shorter with two buns.
    • Another concept had Esme now taller and her buns intact, and Roy colored purple. Both also depict child monsters that are rather less cute than the ones that ultimately appear on the show.
