Trivia / Doctor Who S31 E13 "The Big Bang"

Go To

  • Completely Different Title: The French title is "The Pandorica Opens, Part 2".
  • Creator's Favourite Episode: Steven Moffat named this episode as his personal favourite among the episodes he wrote. "I thought it was just a great, fun, funny, witty episode. I was proud of that."
  • Deleted Scene: After reuniting at the museum, Amy would have broken down at the sight of Rory, who assured her things were okay; this was cut due to pacing issues, which pleased Arthur Darvill as he disliked his performance in the scene.
  • Edited for Syndication: Amelia's starry painting, Rory punching the Doctor, Richard Dawkins' cult, and the video about the Centurion are all missing from the BBC America rebroadcast.
  • Harpo Does Something Funny: The script had no description for the Doctor's dancing at Amy's wedding beyond Amy's spoken comments that it's "terrible" and "embarrassing". All that hand waving and head bopping (terrible, embarrassing, and wonderful) is pure Matt Smith.
  • One-Take Wonder: According to director Toby Haynes, Matt Smith nailed the Doctor's goodbye to Amelia Pond on the first take. He repeatedly listened to Johnny Cash's rendition of "Hurt" to put himself in the right frame of mind.
  • Prop Recycling: The Stone Daleks are modifications of the blue Strategist (active) and the orange Scientist Dalek (inactive) from "Victory of the Daleks", with the other three Paradigm archetypes representing the Daleks in the previous episode.
  • Real-Life Relative: Caitlin Blackwood, Karen Gillan's cousin, returns as seven-year-old Amelia Pond.
  • Recycled Set: The part of the museum where the future!Doctor teleports in was previously used in "Silence in the Library"/"Forest of the Dead" as part of the Library. Appropriate, since River Song appears in both stories.
  • Stunt Double: Matt Smith had a stunt performer for the scene where the Doctor’s future self falls down the museum stairs. They had to do it three times for Toby Haynes to get enough coverage, but he later said it was only the first take.
  • What Could Have Been: There would have been a shot of the village when Amy and Rory take off with the Doctor, which would have shown a family of ducks in the pond, as a bit of a Brick Joke to "The Eleventh Hour", where the Doctor notices the "duck pond" doesn't have any ducks, implying they were taken by a crack in time too, but have now been restored. The scene had to be relocated to Amy's garden, though.
  • Word of God: The title of the episode isn't really about resetting the universe... but instead about Amy's and Rory's wedding night.
