Trivia / Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning

Go To

  • Acting for Two: mystman12 voices all of the original set of characters other than Arts and Crafters. He doesn’t voice anyone after that, aside from the mysterious Null/filename2, the voice used for the countdown in the Test Procedure event and Dr. Reflex, however- 1st Prize uses a text to speech program, and Beans, Mrs. Pomp, and Johnny are voiced by other people. His sister Cady, however, is also this due to voicing Mrs. Pomp and Johnny.
  • Approval of God:
  • Ascended Fanon: Several fanworks, such as Baldi Tower Defense and the Baldi's Basics Random Map Series, portrayed Null as a villain, which was eventually canonized in Classic Remastered.
  • Cash-Cow Franchise: Basically Games offers T-shirts, action figures, plush dolls and even stickers based on the game's characters. Walmart also picked up on selling Baldi's Basics merchandise.
  • Colbert Bump: The game was released for the itch.io Meta Game Jam, where it got a good reception and came in second best, but mostly had a subdued reception outside of the site. It was arguably the Vinesauce stream of the game several days later that jumpstarted its popularity.
  • Copy Protection: Trying to play a pirated version of the Kickstarter backer exclusive demo causes a message to pop up alongside an image of what appears to be Baldi wearing a blue shirt with a mortified look on his face. This screen was later reused in the ending of Baldi's Basics Plus, where it now lists "errors" and the screen is a random color.
    • There’s another version with a different copy protection method- making Baldi go so fast that outrunning him is nearly impossible. The game also does other things, like making the player have to deal with two Principals and having Gotta Sweep sweep the school on a near incessant basis. The game also crashes more frequently while playing, eventually crashing so much that it becomes unplayable.
  • Creator's Favorite: According to this interview, Gotta Sweep is the creator's favorite character due to its erratic and humorous behaviors.
  • Creator's Pest: Playtime seems to be this, as mystman12 says this line when he's interrupted by her in his own livestream: "Ooooh, I hate you sometimes..."
  • Crossdressing Voices: Playtime, a girl, is voiced by mystman12. He revealed during his livestream he needed to speak in a clown-like voice and then distort the resulting recording to make the voice sound feminine enough.
    • Johnny is voiced by his sister, Cady, whom originally came up with the character (but not their design).
  • Descended Creator: All original characters introduced at the game's launch (except for Arts and Crafters), plus the mysterious Null, are voiced by mystman12, including Playtime. The voice used for the countdown in the Test Procedure event from Baldi's Basics Plus and its early demos (a random event that closes all blast doors in the building) is also recorded by him. His picture is also used for the model of Principal of the Thing and Null, though edited to make them look distorted.
  • Development Gag: The random "YUM" on the title screen? Probably a reference to Baldi being originally envisioned as a Big Eater.
  • Inspiration for the Work: From the same interview, Sonic's Schoolhouse.
  • Permanent Placeholder: mystman12 originally intended Doctor Reflex's name to be a placeholder name, but ended up sticking with this name in the final version of the character.
  • Referenced by...: After the devs received permission for the work, a Baldi themed map and killer were added to Dave.EXE.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: There have been persistent rumors that there is a "right" answer to Baldi's incomprehensible Black Speech math problems, though mystman12 has confirmed it has none yet here.
    • As of V1.3, Endless Mode does give the player notebooks in which all three questions can be solved, though the 2nd notebook will always contain the incomprehensible problem, since it's unavoidable in Story Mode.
  • What Could Have Been: Has its own page here.
