- Lucy Maud Montgomery from Bungo Stray Dogs is not only named after Anne's creator, but her appearance was clearly inspired by Anne's (red hair worn in braids and freckles), and she has very similar hobbies of "chatting", "daydreaming" and "romantic things". Her ability is called "Anne of Abyssal Red", and its Japanese name ("Shinenen no Akage no An") references Anne of Green Gables' Japanese title, Akage no An.
- In Episode 7 of Smile PreCure!, Miyuki read the book as a child, and Anne and Diana pledging their friendship in a secret base inspires her to find a secret base for her and the Cures.
- Anita Montgomery (a.k.a Gale Winddancer) from the Punch-Out!! fic Shining and Sweet was named for and themed around this book. In addition to her full name combining a name similar to Anne and the surname of the author, she is also redheaded, from Prince Edward Island, and has a daughter named Blythe (after Gilbert Blythe).
- Code 46: When William is interviewing employees at the company he's investigating, one woman says she finds freckles a turn-on. William then brings up Anne of Green Gables, which leads her to see admit she thinks it's a great piece of erotic fiction.
- In Harmonic Feedback, this is Kari's favorite book.
- Bindy from Being Bindy once received the complete hardback Anne series with matching green spines from her mother. They sit lined up on a shelf above her bed, instead of being shut away in a drawer like her book series with uncoordinated spines.
- Stranger Things: In the last episode of Season 1, Hopper can be seen reading Anne of Green Gables to his daughter in a flashback.
- Hark! A Vagrant has a several strips that are drawn as comical re-imaginings of scenes from the books.
- Spinnerette: The Canadian superhero Green Gables is a direct descendant of Anne Shirley. Green Gables is also a guy, but he wears her outfit anyway, pigtails and all.
- One strip in Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal has a robot cite this series as part of humanity's desire for feel-good treacle.
- In Sewstine's Hidden Layers of an 1890's Puffed Sleeve Dress Christine says that Anne's argument for puffed sleeves in Anne of Green Gables inspired her to start the project, but by the end she was seeing Marilla's side of the argument.
