Recap / Yu Gi Oh First Anime Series Ep 15 Eerie Woman Unable To Transform

Go To

When Anzu gives Yugi the rare Violet Hecate card, it attracts the attention of Risa Kageyama, a girl from the Black Rose Girls Academy who's known among pro dueling circuits. Risa dotes on Yugi while planning to get the card, but when she touches the Millennium Puzzle and it burns her, she realizes she has to get rid of it first. After days of giving him presents and caring for him when he falls ill, as well as stymieing Anzu's efforts to help, Risa asks Yugi for the card as a memento, but he refuses.

Along with her two identical sisters, who happen to be witches, Risa steals the Violet Hecate and the Puzzle and challenges Yugi to a duel if he wants to win them back. Yugi's about to lose, but he's saved by an unlikely source—Seto Kaiba, who refuses to let him lose to anyone but him. The Kageyama sisters fuse their Hecate Monsters into the powerful Gorgon, which rivals his Blue-Eyes in strength, but Kaiba plays a second one and defeats them. The sisters are shocked at the loss, and Yugi's Puzzle and the card are returned to him.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Risa pretended to be nice so she can take the Violet Hecate card.
  • Dark Is Evil: The sisters practice witchcraft and tend to quote Macbeth, which is fitting as their deck is based around the Hecate Sisters.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Risa and her sisters will resort to emotional manipulation and blatant thievery, but even they wouldn't tamper with someone's deck. Also, despite actually stealing the Violet Hecate card from Yugi, they don't include it in their deck during the duel, which would've given them an even greater advantage. They only use it when Kaiba gives them permission to do so after he takes over.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: Risa acts kind and sweet but inside she's vindictive and cruel.
  • Game Face: When Risa or her sisters are showing their villainous side, their green eyes become glassy and their hair becomes wild, almost as if they're possessed.
  • Good Hurts Evil: Risa has an adverse reaction to touching Yugi's Puzzle, prompting her to steal it later on.
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: Risa pushes Anzu off an escalator from behind.
  • Groin Attack: One of the sisters knees Jonouchi in the crotch.
  • The Hecate Sisters: While the Kageyama sisters don't show any overt signs of this trope beyond their Macbeth quotes, it manifests more clearly in the Hecate Sisters cards. Violet Hecate is the Maiden, Yellow Hecate is the Mother, and Red Hecate is the Crone.
  • Honey Trap: Risa pretends to have a crush on Yugi in order to gain his trust before asking if she could have his Violet Hecate card as a token of his affection. The plan fails when Yugi gently declines to hand it over, as he originally got the card from Anzu and thought it wouldn't be fair to her. Risa and her sisters decide to break into Yugi's room and steal it a little while later.
  • Karma Houdini: Risa and her sisters steal the Millennium Puzzle and Yugi's Violet Hecate card and come very close to beating Yugi and Kaiba, but don't really get punished for their actions since the episode ends immediately after they lose the match.
  • Left Hanging: The episode ends immediately after Kaiba wins, not even showing Yugi getting the Puzzle back.
  • MacGuffin: The Violet Hecate card is what Risa was really after.
  • Near-Villain Victory: The Kageyama sisters are defeating Yugi before Kaiba steps in, and when he does they bring out their Gorgon, which is even stronger than a Blue-Eyes thanks to the forest terrain. They lose because Kaiba draws a second Blue-Eyes, which overpowers Gorgon.
  • No Name Given: Risa is the only sister to actually be named, while the other two are never addressed as single individuals. As a group, it's impossible to tell which of them is Risa.
  • Sibling Team: The Kageyama sisters work as a trio to get the Puzzle and the Violet Hecate card.
  • Villainous Rescue: Kaiba defeats the three witch sisters on Yugi's behalf.
  • Whip of Dominance: The Kageyama sisters are a cruel and bossy sibling trio who wield whips, and even use them to steal the Millennium Puzzle from Yugi.
  • Wicked Witch: Risa and her sisters practice witchcraft, quote Macbeth, and have a deck based on the Hecate sisters.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Risa and her sisters nearly beat Yugi, partially due to illness.
