Written By: Donald F. Glut

Professor X decides to enter the mind of Sabretooth to see his thought processes, finding Sabretooth's mind to be full of paranoia and tormented thoughts, one especially of Wolverine. Wolverine is sickened by how they are keeping his archenemy in the X-Mansion and leaves in disgust.

Soon, Magneto attacks a chemical plant in another bid to lure out Xavier. Joined by Cyclops, Rogue, and Storm, Xavier heads there while Jubilee is left to guard Sabretooth.

At the chemical plant, Cyclops, Rogue, and Storm are easily overpowered by Magneto, but when Professor X appears, he tries to reason with Magneto; his pleas fall on deaf ears, leaving Xavier with no choice but to force Magneto to retreat by having him relive the horrifying memories of his family's suffering under the Nazis in World War II during the Holocaust. Tormented by those repressed memories of his suffering, Magneto flees in complete pain and agony.

However, Cyclops is knocked unconscious by toxic fumes and Storm is incapacitated by her claustrophobia while being buried under debris. Rogue helps both of them out, but when she tries to revive Cyclops, she inadvertently temporarily absorbs his mutant powers and has to keep her eyes closed to avoid using Cyclops' optic blasts until it wears off. Xavier guides her with his telepathy as they escape.

Back at the X-Mansion, as Jubilee and Sabretooth listen to the news regarding Senator Robert Kelly and his anti-mutant propaganda for his presidential election, Sabretooth dupes Jubilee into letting him go, allowing him to take her hostage and lay waste to the X-Mansion. However, Wolverine is waiting in ambush, and is able to hold off Sabretooth until the rest of the team returns. However, Sabretooth does manage to badly injure Wolverine before Jubilee blasts him out of the X-Mansion, allowing him to escape, and leaving Wolverine to be confined to the infirmary until he recovers. Xavier apologizes to Wolverine for not listening to him.

Elsewhere, Magneto swears that mutants will come to him by the thousands and help him destroy Xavier before he hovers away.

Deadly Reunions provides examples of:
  • Achilles in His Tent: Wolverine refuses to have any part in Sabretooth's therapy and storms out. However, unbeknownst to Sabretooth, Wolverine had already cooled off and gotten back to the mansion by the time he escaped the chair.
  • Badass Boast: Wolverine, as he gets the better of Sabretooth.
"You always were second best. And in this business, bub, second best don't cut it!"
  • Batman Gambit: It's revealed that Magneto was behind Sabretooth's attack during Beast's trial. As Sabretooth says, Magneto knew that he could exploit Xavier's idealism in order to get an agent inside the X-Men's base.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For:
    • After explaining the whole plan, Sabretooth says the only thing missing is Wolverine, only to sniff his presence. Wolverine lampshades the trope.
    • Wolverine demands that Sabretooth let Jubilee go. Sabretooth obliges by throwing Jubilee into a wall.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Jubilee saves Wolverine from Sabretooth's attack.
  • Big "NO!": Jubilee when Sabretooth makes a lunge at a downed Wolverine.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Magneto's attack is foiled, and Sabretooth is driven off, but Wolverine is critically wounded.
  • Bring It: Wolverine, as he challenges Sabretooth to a fight in the war room.
"All right, you egg suckin' piece of gutter trash! You always liked pushed around people smaller than you. Well, I'm smaller! TRY PUSHIN' ME!"
  • The Brute: Sabretooth is revealed to be working for Magneto as his mailed fist.
  • The Cameo: When Xavier scans Sabretooth's mind, we get glimpses of Deadpool, Maverick, Shiva (called Talos in this series), Leni Zauber (a cover identity of Mystique) and Omega Red.
  • Claustrophobia: Storm has a panic attack, as a wall collapses on her.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: For Maverick, Shiva/Talos, and Omega Red. If you recognize Leni Zauber, it also counts as one for Mystique.
  • Evil Gloating: Sabretooth after capturing Jubilee.
  • Flashback: A brief one to the previous episode, as Cyclops briefs Xavier on the fight with Magneto.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • Rogue has to give Cyclops live-saving CPR because no one else is nearby to do so.
    • Xavier resorts to using Mind Rape on Magneto, in order to save himself and everyone else in the building.
  • Idiot Ball:
    • Xavier leaving Jubilee to keep watch on Sabretooth, despite the latter receiving therapy, was clearly not him employing his better judgement.
    • Rogue gives CPR to Cyclops and is surprised when she absorbs his powers.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Magneto hired Sabretooth, as part of a plan to infiltrate the X-Men's base.
  • Mind Rape: About to be killed, Xavier forces Magneto to relieve the traumatic memories of his childhood in order to drive him away.
  • Motive Rant: Magneto explains to Xavier why he's a Well-Intentioned Extremist.
"When I was a child, my people talked while others prepared for war. They used reason, while others used tanks! And they were destroyed for their trouble. I won't stand by and watch it happen again. I won't!
  • No-Sell: Storm tried her luck summoning a thunderbolt on Magneto, who scoffs at the attempt, reminding her that electricity and magnetism are related.
  • Properly Paranoid: Wolverine turned out to be right along about Sabretooth, when it is revealed that the latter was in fact working for Magneto.
  • The Reveal: Sabretooth was revealed to be working for Magneto; he was sent to Beast's trial, knowing the X-Men would be there to rescue him if he was injured, thus bringing him to the mansion so he could take it over.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Sabretooth runs away after being blasted by Jubilee.
  • This Means War!: Magneto comes to the conclusion that Xavier has cast his lot with baseline humanity and so he and his followers will destroy the X-Men.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: After getting blasted out of the mansion, Sabretooth opts to just make a run for it.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Deconstructed. Xavier insists that he can both administer therapy to Sabretooth and reason with Magneto. Both prove to be disasters and Xavier admits his ideals blinded him to reality.
  • Worthy Opponent: Magneto refers to Xavier as the best of mutant-kind.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Sabretooth intends to start dismantling the X-Men by killing Jubilee.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Sabretooth damages his wrists while being cuffed to a chair. Jubilee, not knowing of his Healing Factor releases it to treat it and gets grabbed and restrained by him.
